So How Do You Incorporate Your Children Into Your Work?

By
Real Estate Agent with Meritus Group Real Estate SD 14808

It seems I never have enough time with my girls. So I have tried to incorporate them into my business in a effort to spend more time with them and save money (yes the little bums should earn their keep!). With summer coming up this is even more important. With two girls ages 9 and 15 they can both help me with a little something.

My oldest girl, Dana, helps with my website. She is a Word Press master! She doesn't have time to do it completely but she can tweak it here and there. She also is old enough to have her drivers license and can help me put out signage for open houses. I also meet plenty of people through her at sporting events as well.

My youngest girl, Anna, is my official envelope sealer and paper folder. Yes this is why when you get my mailings they may be folded a little funny. She is also my sign washer. Isn't it amazing how dirty those signs get when out and exposed to the elements!? She also tells everyone who will stand still that her mommy sells houses. This is because she practically never has her mouth shut unless she is asleep....oh wait she talks in her sleep too! I can't complain  though because she has gotten me a client just by being cute and talking to much.

So is there anything else that your kids help you with concerning real estate?

Mine are a little too young to help with the way I do things, but I do bring them to the office and work from home a lot in the summer.

My 'children' are older, but I can't think of any better marketable skills for a 15-year old to have than to be a word press master.

My grandchildren help out! One of my grandsons clean my offices once per week -I own a branch of a mortgage company and many times he also helps out with answering the phone. Granddaughters have helped to put marketing baskets together - and copy, copy, copy! Great blog!

I used to restore Victorian homes.  I have five girls and the older four would help. But every time the oldest, who is severely allergic to horses, would come into one of our old houses, she would get sick as a dog . . . coughing, sneezing, watering eyes, bronchial passages that closed up.  It made perfect sense when we found out that the lath and plaster was packed with horse hair as a reinforcement.

Bringing you home...

My kids help me on my bank drivebys.... listening to books on tape... singing songs... telling stories. They also pose for pictures for my blogs. My kids are considerably younger than yours, but they always want to help. I work on mailings and they work on their own mailings. I work on flyers and they draw Gramma and Grandpa pictures. When they help me with my car stuff I trade for a park stop.

Fun stuff working with the kiddos!

Rosalie, my kids help me with the mailings.  For example, they put my business cards on the magnetic calendars and they put the stamps on the envelopes.

Having these valuable work skills at an early age will benefit them for their entire lives.  Good for you and good luck to them.

Vickie- My Dana is such a smart girl and she just loves computers. I would not be surprised at all if someday soon she doesn't create her own blog!

Fairway- O good idea there is no reason that my daughter couldn't go into my CMA software and print off saved flyers for open houses either. Genius!

Mimi- I was remodeling a house and tore out a north wall and it was all stuffed with horse hair and newspaper. Crazy what they used for insulation back in the day!
