A CALL FOR ACTION from the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS

Tell Congress: 20% down payments put the American Dream Out of Reach for most people.

There are many good things that the NAR does for Realtors and one of them is their Call for Action newsletters, by taking action and asking Realtors for help in the way of writing to their Senators and Congressmen.

I write a lot of letters to my elected officials both here in the State of Oregon and other states across our nation.  There is not a lot I personally can do to make a difference, but what I do know is that I can write to people who perhaps might listen and take to heart what I have to say and suggest.

Who knows, but I do receive answers back and some are lengthy letters, probably written by a staffer, but a few from my own party have signed them personally or someone is really good at writing their name in signature form.  I take nothing for granted especially when it comes to politics or elected officials, I listen, check out and investigate if I feel I should.

I do appreciate how the NAR and the people they hire work for us not only as Realtors but as individuals looking out for the people we list and sell for.  Can you imagine Requiring a 20% down, first time buyers...whoa..want to buy a $200,000 home and they have to put $40,000 down.  May not sound like much to some, but to people like my son and his wife, serious about their finances, not foolish even in their early thirties would have a difficult time pulling $40,000 together, plus costs, and $200,000 is not a lot of home in this area.

Take Time to look at the Call For Action website, read it and if you have not already, please sign and send your letter to your Congressman today.

I hadn't heard about this.  Do you think this is some sort of "trial ballon" being floated??  20% ???  WOW.

Mary, this is a terrible mistake to require 20% down payment. Many first time buyers will not be able to afford buying a house. As a result, the whole American economy will suffer.

Good Morning Carla, this is a proposal on the table in Congress to make it so everyone has to put 20% down on all residential sales.  Should you put less there would be a huge premium to pay.  It takes the average family 14 years to save 20% down on a home, this is according to the NAR.  If you have not done so, please send your letter via the link I sent to your Congressman.  Thanks Cara, this is definitely something to be concerned about.

Good Morning Elizabeth,  It is definitely a mistake to require this.  The link I sent to you helps you send a letter to your congressman regarding this subject, I encourage you and all you know to do this if you have not already done it.  The NAR is really pretty powerful, but they need to get as many people behind them as possible.  You could even re-post this post so it might get around to more people than just through me.  thaks lizabeth, have a good day.
