Grapevine is a city in North Texas with portions in Denton, Dallas, & Tarrant counties.  It was known in its early years as Grapevine Prairie. As of the 2010 census the city population was 46,334. The city is named for wild mustang grapes prevalent in the area.  In recent years several wineries have opened in Grapevine, and the city has been very active in maintaining its historic downtown area.

Grapevine citizens' concerns were heard but ignored at the Grapevine City Council meeting last night.  Many Grapevine residents were concerned about the final Parks and Recreation Master Plan.  Their concerns were that the city council were not thinking about protecting the wildlife areas around the lake, while making plans to expand soccer fields, hiking trails, and the dreaded concrete parking lots.

Grapevine, TX

One Grapevine High School student brought evidence of current park areas which were littered with junk.  She asks, "why the need to expand parks when the city can't take care of the parks now".  Another citizen expressed concerned over the impact on the migratory birds.  Many mentioned that public citizens would not have access to new soccer and baseball fields that would be locked up for private organization use only.

Several other residents talked about the additional lights, fences, and parking lots int he area and the increased traffic, noise, and the removal of some of the nature areas.

Guess their concerns fell upon deaf ears...The City Council approved the final Parks and Recreation Master Plan late last night.

Diana,

I guess the people have spoken. I'm sure it's frustrating for the people who want to see growth.

Thank you for keeping us informed about your area.

I hate to hear about more citizens' views being ignored.  That is happening everywhere.  Vote those people out who won't listen to their citizenry, they are supposed to represent us not themselves!

Unfortunately it looks like it is happening everywhere Diana. Voices are falling on deaf ears, and if heard are ignored. Next town election...
