More or Less on my Homepage?

By
Real Estate Agent with Sea Glass Properties

Hey Everyone,

I am trying to make my website be a bigger part of my marketing strategy. I have been teaching students that when it comes to your homepage LESS IS MORE. After looking at some of the top producers websites, I am beginning to think maybe I have been miss informing them. What do you think is LESS MORE?

I totally agree that some major players have very very busy websites.  I just don't think they are the best.  I think you have it right.  I need to work on my home page.  You are welcome to give me your thoughts:

Nick, I overall agree. One of my websites http://bellingham-wa-homes.com is very simple. IMHO all consumers really want to see is the inventory. I would make it as easy as possible for consumers to get to the MLS and contact you about seeing homes. So, my recommendation would be to showcase the mls search in the middle or very near the top of your page and then work your keywords around and below.

Best of Luck

I see value in both... busy and not busy.... but if its busy it needs to flow and look good. I feel I struggle for balance as well. The need for more info to be on the site and the need for the site to be visually attractive. Good Luck

Any tips on how I could make it less busy? What if I removed the search engine from the front page?

One thing I've learned about marketing pieces is that use of "white space" and an "uncluttered" look will attract/retain more viewers than a densly packed complicated page.

I had a similar question, as since I had 2 differnt websites, I sent them both to some of my clients for feedback. I have a point2agent site similar to yours, and a Keller Williams site I had just created with some of the new tools available at Keller Williams. THe Keller Williams site has less functionality, but everyone, as in 100 percent liked it better. I was crushed, since I had spent many hours on my point2agent site trying to make it perfect. The clients like simple sites that allow them to search the MLS, at least that's what they tell me. attached is a link to both sites. Good luck, but make it simple if you want clients to use it.

Nick - I tend to agree with you.  I try to go with the KISS philosphy.
