Staging a Pine Lined 1940's Cottage

By
Home Stager with Staging Seattle, King & Snohomish Counties

This was a first for us:  staging a 1940's cottage with wood floors, knotty pine walls and ceilings.  Cozy, but a bit dark before we staged this home.

Living & Dining area before staging:  say hi to the homeowner in the doorway!

Living Room after staging:  with all this wood it was important to add a large area rug to add color and warmth.  Flanking the fireplace with two floor lamps helped to brighten the space.  Creamy white slipcovered sofas are the perfect cottage style furniture.  The woven coffee table and floor plant add texture.

Dining Room after staging:  We didn't want to add even more natural colored wood to this space, so we used a painted black dining set to bring some of the black from the large living room area rug over to the dining area.

Cozy guest room/home office after staging:  The area rug in this room was the jumping off point for the color scheme in this room.  Soft green, orange and yellow in the rug, bedding and artwork create a serene space to work, read and relax.  This room is long and narrow so it was important to show where to place furniture and how to best utilize this space.

Diana- that's a lot of pine!  Your staging definitely turned this from living inside a tree to a warm and special cottage.  Great work!

Great job, it even makes the knots in the pine pop out.

Enjoy the day

Diana - Love the direction you took this home in.  The slip covered sofas really play up a Pottery Barn cottagey look.  Oh, that naughty, knotty pine!

Hi Diana, This looks lovely - the hits of dark/black really stand out against the pine.  The property looks very warm and inviting. Great work!

Diana ~ What a coincidence ... today I'm doing a staging consultation on a home that has the same knotty pine ceiling, walls, and floors!!  The difference is that it's occupied so I'll have to work with what they have ... could be a challenge.  Your staging gave this home a warm cottage look that worked with the knotty pine, instead of against it. Thanks for the inspiration!

P.S.  I like Sally's "Naughty" knotty pine comment LOL!!

Diana--I think that is the most knotty pine I've every seen in one home.  You have the most interesting properties to stage--and I assume it wasn't raining when you staged this one.  Your work really helps detract from the knotty pine and you've given the whole cottage a warm, inviting feel.

Hi Dianna,

Without staging this house just looks like a never ending sea of knotty pine. Thank goodness they found you!

Ha, ha, Diana, this is more knotty pine than I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot in the town where we have our lake house, 45 minutes from us in western NJ! The real estate agent we bought from there said "no one" has money to stage (I wonder!) in that area, but I've always wondered what I would do if I got called to do a staging there. You've given me some great ideas, just in case (I did get a call from an owner who never followed through a while ago)! Love the black DR table (Yikes, more wood would have been sickening!) and the slipcovered couches and dark rug in the living room especially. Very nice job!

Thanks everyone for stopping by to comment!  We do get lots of variety of homes to stage and this knotty pine cottage style was a first for us.  This weekend we are staging another condo.  Wish those condos were as easy to stage as the ramblers and single family homes with ample parking and easy access!

I've not had the pleasure of staging a knotty pine (smile). You did a fabulous job. It's definitely toned down all the pine.

Congratulations. Your home staging is being featured in the group Staging Before and After Pictures.

Diana, you took something that would have been a stumbling block for most buyers and let them see how they can live in this Sally quote "Naughty, knotty pine" home.  Great staging job!

Diana a lovely job with all the spaces. Not an easy task with so much of that wood. Well done!
