Architectural genius or just slinging dirt around? REO palace for birds.

REO (foreclosure properties) homes always offer surprises.  This particular one had the front door guarded by a bunch of flying screeching birds that didn't appreciate my trespassing near their home.  I had to see what they were so proud of.  Here's what I saw.

bird's nest

I took this closeup because I was really impressed with the bird's house.  If there were babies inside they were very quiet and not visible.  Look at the layers of this house.  They appeared to have selected different colors of dirt just to have a nicely painted house.  Deliberate?  Genius birds?  It does make you wonder when you examine the other dirt houses on this property.  The others were all just shacks.  This one, however, was the palace of the REO property.

The moral to this story is this.   If you ever find one dobber nest on your propery tear it down immediately because if you don't the dobbers contact all their relatives and before long your property will be covered with slung dirt.

Barbara, that is very cool---what kinds of birds are they?

That's a swallow's mud nest. These nests are prominent on overpass structures. These nests are a problem for dwellings.

If left alone long enough, the nest will stain surfaces. Also  the nests harbor many swallow parasites, ticks, fleas and bedbugs.

Ms. Barbara you are getting to be a softy. One house...one family...no parasites! Luke wanted to see this one and gave me a terrible face. I'm glad his face didn't freeze that way. One birds house is another man's...

Oh well, I see what you mean about the colors and design...God has created some really neat creatures but I have to agree with Mr. Don on this one...loose the birds and their creation!

By the way, I did recommend you...that is how I found out that she was talking with you...I told them that you were one of my favorite people down here! Make them happy!

Charles, your question is answered by Don, one of our super super sleuths.  If he doesn't know the answer he'll find it in about halfaminute.  : )

Don, don't get the big head because I bragged on you.  The nests do stain, the floor below looks crappy, and I'm beginning to itch right now because of your vivid description of the problems.  I shouldn't have got so close to that nest.

Debbie, Little Luke, being a young adventurous boy, would probably wait until the babies flew off and then he would bring the beautiful mud nest inside to place on a shelf in his room alongside all the other boy treasures.  With Don's explanation, we know not to let him do it.

Pssst....Little Luke, don't let you moma know it but I'll tell you where the nest is.  LOL
