It's Saint Ann's Bridge or Ann's Bridge or Ann Street Bridge ... maybe.

Yesterday I posted about an old pedestrian bridge in the heart of Minot ND. I thought it made a good photography subject. Then I thought I'd do a little Google research on it and  found nothing at all. Today I called the Railroad Museum in Minot to see what they could tell me. What little information they had did lead me to something on the web.

The fellow at the Railroad Museum said it is the Saint Ann's Bridge. It was built by Great Northern RR and they only know that they have pictures dating back to 1920 with the bridge in it but do not know for sure when it was constructed.

Back to Google with the new information, Saint Ann's Bridge. It did take me to Ann's Bridge and Ann Street Bridge. A cool site called Bridgehunter.com had a lot of pictures (some much better then mine) but no info about the date of construction. You can check it out with this link http://bridgehunter.com/nd/ward/anne-pedestrian/ .

My pic's yesterday did not accurately reflect the length of the bridge because you could not see the North end and how it also crosses the river in addition to the BNSF rail yard.

There just seems to be something about both trains and bridges that makes them romantic. Wheather it be kissing your lover atop the middle of a bridge or invisioning soldiers coming home on the train they have the power to tug at our heart strings.

Pretty cool bridge!  The railroad is really cool to watch but can be a bit tough on the people working there with all of the away from home time

Bob, fabulous photos. I love old bridges, trains, and anything that speaks of the past. This bridge is such an interesting part of Minot, so is the train. Thank you for sharing your photos. Have a great day.

Bob, I'm sure it varies from RR to RR but I think BNSF tries to get their people back every day. If they are going to MLPS they just send them right back or if they are going to Billings MT same thing.

Elizabeth, thank you for enjoying them. I find it really odd that no one seems to know or care about the history of this bridge.

You are right about the mystique of trains. I have always said I would like to ride and train and sleep there on the trip.

Debra, sleeping on a train is something I have yet to do as well.

I tried to find a picture from the book that I was talking about yesterday...  I read it to my son tonight before he went to bet.  Harry the Dirty Dog...

That is great research Bob~ Now make sure you put in the title of your Blog~ the name of the bridge accurately and maybe a bar in between with the city and when someone googles, it you will be at the top of GOOGLE~ Especially, since there were not many searches... try it! GOOGLE IT~ < I THINK I WILL BLOG THAT> ;)

Thanks Chris, I've yet to find it but we are going to the library today.

Lauren, as you suggested I Googled Saint Ann's Bridge and I was on the first page. Now I've modified the title as you suggested BUT I'm not understanding the bar thing. How do I put a bar in?

Bob, neat!  I love train pictures.

My grandfather used to take me around all the time to the train station.  We'd watch the Amtrak come in and leave, and the yard engine working.  They even had an old station with an old scale.  We'd weigh me and then go to the gumball machine and get some gum.

Fun to see the train pics!

Michelle, I'm still doing some checking and I'm determined to find the date of construction. Next week I'm going to check at the courthouse.

Jeremy, what great memories! We have had a couple of "Special" trains come through that the family has gone to see. One is the CP Rail Christmas Train and the other is a Steam Engine that came through last year. I don't remember what the occasion was for the Steam Engine but it was really cool.

Bob, I recently pondered that question as well. In my research, I found that the original plat of that area, recorded in 1900, referred to present day Main Street as "Anne Street". So, the final say rests with Erik Ramstad, who commissioned the plat of the area and named the street that leads to the pedestrian bridge. Cool stuff!
