Communication is the key to success

keys to successIn our industy, communication is the cornerstone of establishing lasting relationships, repeat business and referrals.  You quite simply cannot over-communicate when it comes to dealing with your clients.  If you implement proactive communication strategies you can help ease the anxiety and nip in the bud any feelings of not being kept in the loop!  In other words, communication can lubricate the process so your business can run smoothly.

There are definite steps you can employ to help lubricate your business:

1. Create documents that answer frequently asked questions and supply them on a weekly basis to your clients as you progress through your transaction.

2. Have your assistant give you an update at the end of each day.
This can create accountability and help you address items systematically

3. Provide a level of communication that is unparalleled.
This should be a goal you strive for with each client.  Plan on touching    each client at least 5 times a week.  This can be accomplished with a combination of reports, a text, a call and email or a written note.  Having systems in place and a check list will help you implement unparalleled communication.

Get a handle on eliminating the constant state of reactivity so many of us work.  Incorporate steps to help build your level of service and exceed your client's expectations!  Be pro-active and continually think of ways to improve your level of communcation so you can take charge of your activities and not let them take charge of you.

Communication is a wonderful thing - when we use it.  So many misunderstandings can be avoided with something so simple.

I think communication is the MASTER key of success.  Without it you have nothing.  It opens so many doors.

Dorie, you are absolutely right. I think the biggest complaint from clients is the agent never keeps in touch. Great points.

Thanks for a wonderful post and great advice.

I always used a buyer's/sellers book with copies of everything, answers to questions to calm nerves in the middle of the night.

Communication is the key of course.

What you say, how you say it and how often can go either way. The wrong off hand tone, the habit of slamming others wearing the "R", ranting or doing one post and saying "there, done" miss the point. I think less me me me communication with the image of Joe and Jane Broker with the staged cell phone and pearly white smile and more letting the property talk with images, videos is key. The area information needs to be front and center for the buyer not sure which zip code to consider and that knows nothing about your area. But could be buying there if you gave them time saving information. There are so many signals, communication and opinions out there.

First off, I would like to say that I wholeheartedly agree, and find to be 100% true, that communication is the cornerstone of establishing repeat business and referrals. To add to the great suggestions in your post, I would say ensure you have a system in place, such as IXACT Contact, to track client communication and a system that allows you to know who you've contacted when and who you still need to contact. Hope this helps!

Great post...communication is critical and I believe is the reason that many agents to not get repeat business from their past clients.

Good afternoon Andrew,

Of course it can go either way..depends on the individual. Some want to hear themselves talk others want to offer a message of reason..often and with clarity.

Dorie - This is important.  It helps clients feel in touch with what's going on and also keeps them from being frustrated.
