Charlie: What things should I think about when buying a home in Reston? I am planning on moving from Texas and taking a job near Dulles Airport along the tech corridor of 28 and the toll road.
I have never purchased a home before. What are some of the considerations? I need to find a Reston Realtor, apply for a mortgage the whole bit.
Can you send a video that guides me in the thought process and that also would enable me to see if I might like having you and Jan help me find a home?
Steve : Charlie, buying a home in Reston entails the same thought process and procedures as almost anywhere else in Northern Virginia.
The paperwork is lengthy (15-22 pages per offer) but helping home buyers wade through the process is our full time profession...you will emerge victorious if you are both persistent and patient.
Housing inventory is low now and affordable homes in great shape are receiving multiple offers frequently. Expect to compete.
We know that sounds strange given the doom and gloom the national news reports on the county's housing market, but Northern VA is and almost always has been the nation's hottest job market and the fastest growing, highest paying counties are right here brother.
In addition to Reston, you may also want to consider the communities of Herndon, Ashburn or Sterling.
They will all give you an easy commute to the Dulles corridor.
We made a home made video a number of years ago explaining much of the home buying process. In other videos I talk about the importance of getting pre-qualified for a mortgage...that should be your first step BUT let's talk about other stuff in this show.
I am younger and thinner in this movie than I am now but the information is still timeless.
By the way Charlie, this is kind of an after-thought but when you move here you will not suffer from lack of dining options.
Reston Town Center has more than 30 eateries. Here is a 56 second tour:
