Fulton County-New Tax Notices to Go Out

Revised Fulton County Tax Notices

Fulton County Board of Assessors has made the decision to mail revised tax notices to the property owners of the county.  Those property owners in Sandy Springs, Johns Creek, Chattahoochee Hills and unincorporated South Fulton will not receive new notices, according to the AJC (Atlanta Journal Constitution) on Thursday May 19.

The original taxes notices that were sent out bloated Atlantans tax bills by thousands of dollars, due to a commercial solid waste charge that was erroneously included on the total estimate line. The homestead exemption was last year’s amount of $25,000, instead of the scheduled exemption for this year of $30,000, and the municipal tax estimates for ten cities was omitted from the notices.

The estimated cost for the re-mailing will be $140,000.  Chief Appraiser Burt Manning has not yet identified where the funds will come from, but is seeking the assistance of County manager Zachary Williams.

You get a really nice homestead exemption there. I think ours here is a mere $7,500.
