Today at the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ Church in Nampa Idaho was a very special day!
We celebrated with our Pastor Dr. J Stephen Perotti ...Pastor Steve... 25 years in the Ministry!
With it we had a proclamation that promised to have a Matthew 25 day of his choosing in the very near future!
Matthew 25 Sunday is a day where the members of the congregation don't come to church....instead we go to the community and volunteer in many different ways....we cleaned up a park...we served shut ins...we made cookies for the homeless shelters and shut ins...and a whole bunch of other projects!
Pastor Steve came to our congregation 5 years ago! It has been a fun filled and very quick 5 years!
During his time of pastoring at the Nampa First Christian Church he has challenged his congregation in many ways....to give of our time and to all do the work he does....he can't do it all!
It has been a challenging time for our Pastor Steve. Our congregation has a lot of the older generation so sadly we have had many funerals for beloved members.
Pastor Steve has ministered to many of these...countless visits to their homes and to the hospitals! He has laughed and cried with all of us during these times!
Our youth group has flourished under the help of his wife Sue, she has a heart for serving the youth and because they have 3 children of .....well maybe I should say one child and 2 young adults in college now...they have a unique understanding. Many kids have started attending Nampa First Christian because of the Perotti Family.
Pastor Steve always brings the message to our congregation in a very interesting way....a way that you won't forget the message. One Sunday he preached from a top a ladder...he told the story of the Prodigal Son to us from the Prodigal Son's point of view.
Another Sunday when he was giving a series of messages on Revelations he used The Beatles music as an outline....we heard many Beatles songs that day!
A few weeks ago it was the Wizard of Oz!
Another one of my favorite sermons was when he spoke of the Rebel David and Jezebel. He had a video .....and in it he was driving a pink motor scooter....to the tune of "Born to be Wild" Much to our surprise....he rode into the sanctuary on the pink scooter ....with his jean jacket and bandanna....
Many sermons start with a skit or video of some sort. We have a few that come up as a series from time to time....one is a Dragnet theme and the other is a western Radio show with a few outcasts!
You never know what you will hear from his sermons! Amazingly all generations adore him.
I had the privilege of having him marry my husband and I, 2 years ago! What a treat! He gave us a wonderful message and a few gifts. (that is what he commonly does during wedding ceremonies) We got a vintage canning jar filled with antique buttons. They were for the times that we need to tell each other to button it up! LOL He also gave us a Phone-Less Cord. This is for the times that we need to unplug and listen to the Lord. The last gift was a journal for each of us. This is for us to write down memories of the special things that our spouse has done for us....the things that make us love each other. We are to read about those things when things aren't so great!!!
Another wedding he had red foam clown noses for all of us to wear when the bride and groom were done renewing their vows and had kissed each other! You just never know what to expect!
We feel very proud to have such a wonderful man as our Pastor. Martinsville Virginia's loss and definitely our gain!!!!
I have posted a few pictures....one is at my wedding and the other is a picture I swiped from the church website. I laughed when I clicked on the link to Pastor Steve at the picture....it truly is a great picture of Pastor Steve....I am sure he didn't want a formal picture as this is truly the man he is!
Thank you Pastor Steve for your dedication and devotion!!! We love you and look forward to another 25 years of you as our Pastor!!! I am thankful that you remain true to your self...that you are YOU!~~~
Tomorrow I will post a few tidbits of wisdom that Pastor has learned in the past 25 years!
