Military Hot Spot - PMRF Kauai
A very special day for the military is coming up this weekend. Will write more about the meaning of the day later. This post is for military that will be coming to Kauai or may be visiting as they read this post.
Kauai has a 70 mile "U" shaped stretch of highway that can be driven from the north east to the north west with the Napali shoreline separating the difference. Poli Hale is a State Park on the Northwest tip of Kauai. When you arive in Kauai you will notice some vehicles that are setting pretty high. That is the type vehicle you need to traverse to Poli Hale. The road is ROUGH and LONG! Beautiful whte beach as far as the eye can see is the reward for taking the risk of the drive. For military and their families there is another stretch of the same beach accessible at PMRF. Same white sand beach that stretches for miles. I would only swim if you see local people out. There are no life guards and the beach drops off pretty quickly. There are volleyball nets and plenty of beach just to kick back enjoy the sun and build sand castles. The base is very active in the Kauai community. Local residents can obtain annual passes to PMRF with a background check and current vehicle registration.
The base has a beautiful fireworks display and every once in a while they have open house so people can learn about their mission and see various aircraft active on the base. One of the BEST Restaurants is located on the base. The name is Shenanigan's. Simple menu, great atmosphere and unbeatable sunsets are all part of the experience at Shenanigan's. They have tremendous military housing for those traveling or who have retired. So check PMRF out! You will not be disappointed.
