WHAT Are You Trying To Sell Me, Fellow Agent? Seriously?

By
Real Estate Agent with Realty Associates 0529267

I have noticed a trend lately on Active Rain.  Real estate agents trying to sell anything and everything besides real estate.  And, the bad part is, they are trying to sell it to us!  This may not bother most people and I realize that agents have to make a living.  But, if you aren't making a living selling real estate, then maybe it is time for you to look for a job that offers a weekly pay check and benefits.  There is no shame in that!  We do what we have to do to take care of our families.

Sales Person

Some agents are working part-time jobs to supplement their real estate careers.  If you are in this position, then I commend you for working two jobs.  No, it is the ones who are on AR selling everything from makeup to electric power.  Come on.  I don't think it is really fair of you to use your fellow AR members that way.  I hope you have great success at selling whatever it is you are selling, but maybe it would be a good idea to not use AR.  I'm just saying.......

Pam, I fully agree with you. It seems like every week I get at least two calls on some product that has nothing to do with Real Estate.

I haven't really noticed that, but I have noticed several posts that have nothing to do with real estate. Maybe variety is good, and we can't all be all real estate all of the time. I have no plans to buy any products from active rain. Not why I'm here.

Hi Pam,

So far, I haven't had any problems with this, but maybe I haven't been in the 'right' circles!

At least it's a change from people selling us programs and systems that will let us make $300k a year and only work 20 hours a week!

Frank -  Just seems like they have a captive audience.....not good.

Jeff - I don't have problems with anyone selling anything.  I just think AR might be the right place.

Michele - I don't think this is a big problem.  It is just something I've noticed lately.

It's a mind set....

as someone who was involved with and successful with a multi-level marketing company years ago, I understand the fervor and almost, dare I say it, BRAINWASHING that comes with being "trained" to sell the product from the "upline".

Here's the FUNNY thing about it...if those people applied THAT type of fervor and dedication to prospecting and selling real estate, they would ultimately be much more successful at a real estate agent than they would in the multi level platform they are trying to further that will, some day, fall apart as they all do.

I haven't seen any hawkers of anything other than real estate related stuff.

But I will say that I have enough of those on my personal email and don't need anymore.

Pam, I haven't seen too many of those, but maybe it's because I don't bother to see them. I also don't read listing either, I guess I've trained my eyes to look at what I want to see here... I agree, just because the audience is captive, doesn't mean they want to be!

Pam thankfully I haven't deleted seen anything like that here. It does seem like I deal with co-op agents everyday who do everything but real estate. I have several blogs in the draft about this. I think its time to put them out in the open.

Ron - I know what you mean!  So true.

Sussie - I hope they stop it.  We do get enough of those on out emails!

Peg - I am going to try your way of "not noticing them".

Mike - you are so right!   If they need to try something new - great!  But, just don't try to sell whatever it is to the AR community.
