Sunday I woke up slowly and then sat on my front porch reading the newspaper before getting my day started too quickly. At some point I drifted away from the newspaper and just watched the squirrels in our front yard. I should note hear that our yard has three very large, very mature oak trees. The acorns falling can get so numerous that I have to wear a hard hat when I am out grilling.
But I digress.
Each year before all those leaves fall our yard looks like it has been peppered with bullets from a fighter pilot's strafing run. Thumb sized holes are everywhere to be found. Pulling up the poor repair job will always show a hidden acorn that has been carefully stored for winter.
I have to hand it to these industrious little squirrels. They chew on my house and annoy the crap out of me most of the time. But they know where the food is (my house!) and they eat what they will and save more for when they know times will be lean.
It got me to thinking about those of us in the real estate profession in the colder climants. With each closing I bury an acorn. Burying acorns is my assurance that I will get through winter. Have you buried enough acorns?
