RSS, or Really Simple Syndication is a group of web feed formats that is commonly used to present frequently updated content. With using this new tool, RSS has made a revolutionary change in the way that content is presented and received online. If you are a website owner, or you are a frequent blogger you would have a much greater chance of gaining a bigger audience and delivering your information faster if you can utilize the RSS method.
Having an RSS feed on your site will help the reader subscribe to several of your feeds. This is a way for the reader to receive all of them on a single list, and to contain a full or summarized version of the text that is being published. With the RSS feed it will help your readers stay connected to all that you are doing. For businesses this can become a very helpful tool. RSS feeds can be generated with a various amount of methods, many allowing the user to host RSS feeds directly to their server.
Before you can create an RSS feed onto your blog or website, installing an RSS feed reader is a must. By using almost any virtual operating system; which doesn’t limit itself to iPhones, IPads, BlackBerrys, etc., they are available free of charge.

Visit your favorite news sites and blogs and subscribe to their RSS feeds. Subscribing to feeds from major sites and blogs will give you invaluable insight into how to set up your own RSS feeds. This can come in greatly to your advantage. There are also a great many types of RSS publishing tools to help in customizing your RSS feed.
More advanced RSS feed generators are also available, with features such as metrics (for tracking the performance of your feeds), content targeting tools (to increase the visibility of your feeds to your audience), and scheduled auto responder messages. These are used in cases of more popular news sites, or social networking sites for instance.
From a content perspective, it’s crucial that your RSS feeds don’t look like blatant advertising. Even if the goal of your site is to sell a product or service, your RSS feed will be more effective if it offers interesting content related to those products or services instead of a simple sales pitch.
To promote your RSS feeds on your site, consider devoting an entire page to the feed itself and RSS in general. Explain what RSS is and how your visitors can benefit. Many people that are going to come to your site might have never even heard of RSS or those that have can’t really explain what it is.
Above all, on-site RSS feed promotion demands that you post interesting, valuable content that readers actually want to subscribe to. Because without people willing to subscribe, there really is no point in having one.
Off-site RSS feed promotion begins by submitting your feeds to popular search engines and RSS directories. You can also use a service such as Pingomatic to “ping” various RSS aggregation sites, which informs them each time you post new content. Also increasing your Google searches or Yahoo! can help greatly.
Ways to increase your off-site RSS feed could be as easily as just making the RSS button visible, or putting it in popular places such as Facebook or Twitter. Overall, having an RSS feed on your website or blog is the best way to increase traffic into your site.
