(Almost) Wordless Wednesday...Finally, A Bit Of Color Around The Yard

With the Spring we've had here on the Seacoast, you could mistake the white in this photo for snow.
Driveway
Turns out, its only time for the Hawthorne trees to begin dropping its snow white flowery petals.

The lilacs are now in full bloom and the yard is filled with their amazing scent.

For brilliant color, its hard to beat an azalea.

Don't forget to sprinkle in a little lily of the valley here and there, or a vinca, or maybe even a wisteria.

Add a coral colored early blooming rhododendron, and you might think Spring has arrived on the Seacoast!

And you'd be right. It was worth waiting for!

Beautiful. Spring is beautiful here too, but I haven't taken photos. You have inspired me to do so.

Thanks!

Hi Cindy - The lilacs seem like some sort of miracle. Told to me by the previous owner, the lilacs formed a hedge all across the back yard. When they decided to put a pool in, the lilacs were bulldozed into a large pile and never really planted. They rooted down from the pile and grew. I did not realize bleeding heart would spread, but they have delightful little minds of their own. I will see you for WIIW!

Karin - Please be sure to photograph them and post them for all of us. Sunshine helps open the flowers to be sure, but nothing beats warm temps. Thanks for coming by!

Gorgeous!  I was just thinking this morning that I can feel summer even though it seems that spring just started!  It's going to be 80 and sunny here today.  Almost pool weather!

John, GREAT bold colors that add so much to curb appeal!    I was afraid the first photo was hail, glad to hear it was petals!

Hi Kathleen - Your weather and ours over here is quite close. Summer doesn't seem to want to wait now. It will 80 here today too. When I took those photos yesterday, it was overcast. Kind of wish I had waited for today with the sun. Oh well...take more :)

Joan - Landscaping and gardening are two things I enjoy, but like most of us, there is limited time to accomplish some of the upkeep. I'm a big fan of taking one project at a time. The Hawthorne bloosoms start out pink and gradually turn white. They produce a berry which hangs on almost all winter. The birds love the berries, which by January-February have become quite fermented, and the birds are great fun to watch after they have gorged themselves!

Hi Toni - Hooray for Spring!!! The lily of the valley must have been here all along as I don't remember planting them. Most of the ones I have seen have been white and bit larger, but these are lavender and on the smaller side. Hope you have a terrific day!

John, in your first photo, I thought it was hail because that's what my driveway looked like the past four days in a row! I'd much rather have the Hawthorne petals!

All of your photos bring spring time into focus vividly! They are so beautiful! The earth is so much prettier with new blossoms. Thanks for brightening up my day!

Beautiful blooms, John. Our azaleas have come and gone, apparently it's a short blooming season for then.  Since our front landscaping is fairly new, I just want for the plants and bushes to survive our hot summers. Very colorful post!

Hi Patricia - So sorry you have had hail. That can be devastating! Hawthorne petals falling to the ground are so much quieter! I'm happy to be able to share the seasons with you!

Yolanda - Thanks for dropping by! You certainly have been blessed with your gorgeous tulips. Surely hope your front planting beds hold up to the heat. It has been my experience most ornamentals will survive even the driest heat if they receive enough water. I have some container plants, brugmansias, that don't hesitate to let me know they need daily water.

Hi Robert - There is nothing like lilacs. Now that it has finally warmed up and the windows are open, the lilac scent fills the house. My wife and I cut as many as possible because it makes them come back stronger next year.

John, fabulous photos. It looks like the Spring has finally arrived to your town. I love all the flowers, particularly lilacs. When I was growing up, we had several around our house and I still remember the sweet fragrance of lilacs.

Hi Elizabeth -  It's finally here! How long ago were you posting photos of the cherry blossoms? Hard to believe our Spring is so far behind yours! Lilacs are just the best. I understand there is a new variety that blooms again in the summer. Hope you have a great day!

I'm quite jealous of all that color!  The most I have going on in my yard right now is hosta...not much color there, LOL!  My daughter-in-law brought me some cut lilacs for the kitchen this week, so I have been enjoying their fragrance!

Hi Sharon - This is just the best time of year around here. All the time spent gardening and landscaping really pays off now. I'm also a fan of hostas. True not much color, but there are so many varieties. Love them all!

Hi Rene - Thank you! Short season for my favorites, too. But lilacs, I will take them any way I can. The yard smelled so great while they were here. Hope you holiday weekend was great. Back to the grind exciting world of real estate tomorrow!
