3 Tips to Harness YouTube

By

Video is the NOW (not the future). Have you noticed that once you see one set of photos, they all start blending together? Video will help that floorplan STAND OUT and allow you some flexibility to showcase the neighborhood.

Here are 3 tips you can use TODAY to get YouTube working for you:

1) JUST DO IT!
Let me share the most important thing about video in today's market. If we can comprehend this one rule, our videos will explode and we will have the freedom to produce! Here it is: Polished, professional, Hollywood videos are OUT! People respond best to custom, raw, REAL, informational/fun videos. Congratulations, you now have permission to get out there and produce that video you've been thinking about.

So "Rule 1b" is to grab your smartphone, flipcam, or whatever and start filming. Do it quick and be REAL with what you produce. The #1 reason why people aren't doing this is because they think they can't do it or it won't be good enough. CONTENT IS KING. Say it quick and give the viewer benefit and you'll be a success.

2) Get you video out there!
For all you RE/MAX people, here is a great link for you to syndicate all your YouTube channels to the main RE/MAX Brand channel for HUGE exposure!

For the rest of you guys, take your video and push it through your social media channels. It's the HOTTEST news ever because you are sharing some INCREDIBLE information with people, right?? Post it to ActiveRain as a blog. Tweet it a couple of times. Ask your Facebook fans and friends to watch it and PASS IT ON.

3) Help the search engines
Do yourself a favor and fill in those empty boxes on YouTube with some well thought out key words. Remember, the machines that will push your video out there are robots. They can't watch your video (yet) so they are only reading the headline, description and other key words. Say what your video is about using words that people may use to search for your topic.

Below are two recent video I've produced. They are both very different in style but it gets the point out there and gets my message out.

How are YOU using video? Post your video links in the comments below so I can see them!

I'm very interested in the home tour.  It looks like you're using a Merlin steadicam.  How's that working for you?  What software are you using to edit videos?  It looked like to you made the home tour in one shot!

Very good observation, Steve! I did use a steadicam for that home video. I blogged about it here: http://bit.ly/jf0uiz if you want to read a bit more about it.

Yes, it was one take, but that doesn't count the 8 other takes of bloopers where I fell, ran into walls, or had the stedicam get crazy spinning in my hands! It's an art, for sure.

Lots of great info here - I really like your tutorial on the ipad.  Time to get going with videos before they become obsolete (which they surely will eventually)

I am just developing my video skills and have a few that i'm not very proud of.  My biggest question is how you walk and keep the camera as still as you do.  I have a 'stick' that i use to balance it, but it doesn't balance nearly as well as yours.  Would love to know your secret.
