My Cat Gets Better Healthcare Than Me!

It's true!  Yesterday we got to pay a $782 bill for one of my cats to get some teeth pulled and her ears looked at, and I got to thinking, "When is the last time I paid that much for my own dental health?"  Ummm...I don't think I  have...ever.  As a self-employed Realtor, I don't get any fancy insurance plan provided by my company.   I have a high-deductible health plan, but that basically means I still pay out of pocket every time something is wrong and I need to go see a physician or dentist.  Therefore I try to make sure I stay in excellent health, keep exercising, eat healthy, and hopefully can avoid seeing any doctors!

When I'm sick or something I always think, "Hmmm...can I just live with it until I get better?"  But it's a different story when one of my cats gets sick or needs a tooth pulled!  I can't stand the thought of a poor innocent creature suffering if I can do something about it!  Hence we took her in when her ears got fluid in them and the vet also found that one of her canines also needed pulling (as did a couple others once she got in there and looked around).  So, Bear is now in better health than me, probably, but she's definitely feeling good and happy.  Have you ever seen a cat on morphine?  VERY funny!  Luckily, I have a closing on Friday to help cover the cost!!

They do offer health insurance for animals....health insurance is outrageously expensive....my blue cross-blue shield just for me, one person, is like a mortgage payment to many.....

Health insurance has always been a priority for myself and I'm more than happy to pay for annual check-ups for my hounds!

I know what you mean, it is a difficult decision, isn't it. I don't know the answer either. Many are making the decision to feed the family or buy health care... let alone take care of the animals.

Hi Barbara--Yeah, no kidding--even with my high deductible it's still a huge payment every month!

Wallace--I definitely make sure my kitties are well taken care of, too!

Andrea--It's a sad situation all over the country--very tough for those of us whose companies don't provide anything!

Susan, can't get over the high cost of vet care.  I could have had a complete face lift for what it cost to take care of my old dog, Sparky's, skin condition.  I'm sure your kitty appreciates it.

Hi Joni--But we are very willing, aren't we, to spend the money on our beloved pets!   Just wish it weren't SO MUCH sometimes!  :)
