Wordless Wednesday Almost ~ Remember The Blockbuster Store

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

I have seen a few people cheating on this Wordless Wednesday posting where you are just supposed to throw out there a fave or interesting photo but you JUST HAVE TO add a few lines of text (in the post rather than the comments) to splain yourself. So I too am a cheat today.

Blockbuster Store

So my two cents narration on this one is ALL about change. This WAS in the past a Blockbuster Video store I frequented A LOT to rent DVDs. The company filed bankruptcy due to a shifting world with streaming video and pay per view video and Netflix mail deleivery and got bought out by Dish Network in Colorado. They are scaling back the number of stores and will change the business model but many stores were closed.

CHANGE IS PERSISTENT AND RELENTLESS in life, and like the imprint of the logo on the building we do leave an impact on someone or they on us when they or it is GONE. I warn my Twitter friends that Twitter will be gone someday too, either going away entirely or morphing into something else. Someone pointed out to me that EVERYTHING almost in life is like a fad. Not there FOREVER. Like the wind changing. People can be constant with their love, caring, and kindness but THEY won't be there forever. That is the difference in those two understandings of people, their character and their presence. One is real, the other an illusion. Even the Oprah show, poof GONE. Keep that Blockbuster Store image in your mind. Once thriving, NOW GONE. Enjoy and cherish EVERYTHING while it is here and real and present in your life. So much for wordless, ha ha.

I can think of many other things that are gone now... that I miss more than a Blockbuster store-- but I get your point.  Life is full of change-- and only the rocks live forever.  :-)  Kathy

Kathy: I agree - MANY more important things in life that have disappeared that we remember fondly. Trees live real long, now rocks, if we could turn ourselves into them, that is a forever thing for sure, like dirt.

Laura: Yep many of these shells of stores appearing around the country. They have been around so long it is even worse I think than restaurants going out of business. THINGS CHANGE. A very clear example there.

Gary - Great "wordless" blog. Nothing stays the same for long, especially in the tech age.

Gary, we have an empty store in our town also.   You have to be able to adapt to change or you will go the way of the dinosaur.

Loved the commentary Gary. Im working on a couple of Blockbuster sites in Houston to redevelop into new uses. I lost a ton on thier stock, and I should have moved the change into Red Box and recovered. I think the next dying retailer will be the big box bookstores.

Hi Gary - it seems even the Wordless Wednesday Blog is changing...

Our local Blockbuster is right now becoming the new expanded home of our local bagel shop - Bagel Boys

We love Netflix! Even if it is a bit behind on new releases - Enjoy it too while it lasts.

Gary, One thing we can be sure about in life is CHANGE!  Our Blockbuster that just closed has left that same imprint on the building. It will be interesting to see how they get it off.  It is in The Woodlands so someone will want that spot eventually.

Hi Gary, you've made a really good point about change and appreciating the people in our lives.  My Dad, whom everyone always considers to be Mr. Healthy and Active is now on his thirde day of being in the hospital.

Seeing the empty stores does make me sad.  However, I find your comments on Twitter amusing.  You really don't like it do you?

Gary,

Blockbuster, Oprah and such can be gone in the snap of your fingers.  Good reminder that we should avoid chasing after the wind... g

Hi Gary,

Blockbuster is an excellent example of how everyone needs to be prepared to change with the times.

John: Tech has a life of what these days? Six months? So true John.

William: Good point like dinosaurs, things do go extinct never to be seen again.

Mike: I'm hoping Barnes and Noble will survive as one last brick and mortar bookstore. I do like them.

Andre: Just go with the flow. A bagel shop is not such a bad change.....

Jane: Change is one of those constants out there in life.

Sharon: Guilty as charged, I am a character.

Loreena: I read your post on change. Very good, and inevitable.

Marchel: Many commercial agents are looking to do something else with those vacated Blockbuster buildings.

Sondra: I hope your father gets well real soon. The Twitter platform just seems so short length with the messages to say anything meaningful. It is very entertaining for many though to send and receive and "follow" all those short blurbs.

Gordon: The wind shifts so much, chasing after it makes no sense.

Scott: Blockbuster definitely has moved through its cycle as a business.

Hi Gary, I liked your Wordful Wednesday post, so many business that thrived during their time are gone...like newspapers in the wind!  It's strange to see the empty buildings isn't it?

Mary: I still am the dinosaur reading the paper newspapers which for me COMPLEMENT the online version. I seem to be the only one on the planet with that view Mary. You see a lot of empty buildings with restaurants turning over too, particularly the non-chain ones.
