Weekend wine down

Usually I post about wine on Wednesdays, but had some problems this week being able to post. So here we go a few days late, but a great week for wine.

I mentioned Mateus Rose a few weeks ago, well there it was on the shelf when I was buying some wine, and with weather this hot this early in the year, could not resist, so many memories come flooding back just looking at the bottle of family, holidays, and good times. But more of that after we have tried it, but worth picking some up if you are at the wine store, I think it is better than Lancers Portuguese Rose and head and shoulders over white zinfandel.

This week I was in Harrisburg for the Pennsylvania Association of Realtor meetings, we had a local association dinner and the red wine was delicious, only problem was, it had been a long long day and I did not think to snap the bottle or take the name of the wine. Duh...Sorry. Maybe, I can get details from someone else who was there as it was a bring your own bottle restaurant.

However, what I can share with you is a really nice Chardonnay. Chardonnay is often the go to wine for many people, and because of that it gets a bad wrap, but a good chardonnay is worth drinking and this Monticello Vineyards, Presidential Chardonnay is right up there, not really oaky, but great deep golden color, and great flavor without being over sweet, the flavor also had some depth to it and some interesting after flavor. Great to drink as an aperitif, but also nice with food.

Jay Corley went to Napa Valley in 1969, the family has pursued a commitment to estate grown wines since then. Worth buying if you get a chance, not your everyday Chardonnay, a little more interesting, would be interested in trying some of their other wines as well if this is anything to go by.

Us Brits also love a Pimms over the Summer, a great drink for parties it goes down very easily, maybe a little to easily, but very refreshing. Again, if you get a chance, pick up a bottle of this, I will write about what I know of the background and how to make a great Pimms Cup that will have everyone singing your praises.

Sounds like a good bottle. After your post on Mateus Rose, I grabbed 2 bottles at the STATE Store.
