Home Staging Vancouver, B.C. - AN EXPLOSION OF MELLOW, YELLOW SOFAS!

Home Staging North Vancouver-Before & After PhotosIs there a full yellow moon out lately?  I can't quite explain it, but recently we've been faced with staging several properties, all with yellow sofas.  Yellow!  The sofas have actually been in very good shape; it's just that they are very yellow, rather than a nice, neutral cream or beige.  Since our brief has been to work with the existing furnishings, rather than bringing in rental furniture, we decided to solve the problem of these dominant coloured sofas.  Our solution?  Bring in another colour to compliment and actually tone down the yellow.

In this particular case, we brought in a nice, soft blue, in cushions, accessories and artwork.  The cushions are from Pottery Barn, and have wonderful texture and a lovely, soft, subtle colour to them.  We also hung artwork that was mostly blue and brown, but with a hint of yellow, to tie in with the sofas.  By working with the existing furniture, we were able to save the home owner money in staging costs, and still improve the look of the existing living room.  The living room is much more presentable now, and looks great on the MLS listing.

I don't know that I've ever had to work with a yellow sofa??  Thanks to you, these sofas will no longer be an issue!

Sally,

Well mellow yellow is certainly a lot better than some other types of yellows.

Not exactly the type of explosion one would hope for Sally! But you did a great job cleaning up the aftermath. LOL

Hi Sally,

Wow, you did an awesome job!  What a great transformation... all you saw before was YELLOW and now it really does look soft and you hardly notice the sofa's are yellow at all.  I really love what you did...  very creative and wonderful how you saved the day for the homeowners so they didn't have to rent furniture!!!

Great job Sally making that yellow work in the room.  Yellows and blues are a class combination which you put to work wonderfully!

Peg - I bet you're right - there must have been a huge 1/2 price sale on all yellow sofas in the city!  All I know, is that I'm dealing with the aftermath...  but that's ok, this problem can be solved!

Roger - Yes, but you've made your yellow sofa work because you are a brilliant designer!

Sharon - What?  No yellow sofas in New Hampshire?  You don't know what you've been missing.

Brian - I couldn't agree more!

Shar - I was able to snuff out the explosion with the help of some blue cushions!

Linda - It really is more of a challenge to work with clients' existing furniture, but it also forces us to work a little more creatively, which I love (and I know you do, too).

Julie - Zinger?  Oh, I must check out her latest post...

Julie - Oh, you're very welcome!

Ginger - I agree, yellows and blue are actually a really nice, fresh combination.  Thanks!

Sally, I love your accessories and pillows. Great combination of yellow and blue and that painting above the sofa ties it all together. Also the rug anchors the room and create cozy atmosphere.

Sally--my those sofas are definitely a yellow I would not want to have to work with.  As I started reading your post, I said "blue" and you did a great job of transforming that space and making it work.

Anna - You have a very good eye!  The rug added a softness to the bare, uninteresting floor and united the whole living room conversation area.

Janet - What can I say - great minds think alike!  It would have been great to bring in new furnture, but I do love a challenge, too.

Kathy - Oooh, can I use that term "designer finished"?  I love it!  Thank you so much.

Maggie - Actually, my favourite colour is yellow, too.  Although I prefer it in small doses!

HI Sally, WOW!! what a difference. Not to mention the excercise bike in the room.  I love yellow as well as an accent. Living in our grey days for most of the year I can understand why someone would select a yellow sofa to cheer things up a bit.  The artwork you used definitely makes the room come together. It is quite dramatic how the right piece of artwork can be a jumping off point to tie a room together. Great work as always.

Michelle - Oh yes, the exercise bike didn't really say "living room"...  We certainly have our share of grey days here, too.  The yellow sofas were dominating, until we added the accents and artwork.  Once they were toned down, there was more harmony in the room.  Art is a wonderful thing!

This post so reminds me of my "orange" sofa dilemma. You worked your magic (again).

Congratulations. Your home staging is being featured in the group Staging Before and After Pictures.
