HISTORIC ALAMEDA NEIGHBORHOODS - NOBLE AVENUE

HISTORIC ALAMEDA NEIGHBORHOODS - NOBLE AVENUE.  Alameda has many historic neighborhoods.  Noble Avenue is one of those neighborhoods.  George Noble was the foremost bungalow builder in Alameda who built these homes.  The street is named for him.  Noble build most of his bungalows in Alameda from 1909 to 1925.

Noble built over 300 homes in Alameda,  He started out building conventional craftsman then developed stylist changes such as a peaked roof on the craftsman bungalow.

NOBLE MADE STYLISTIC CHANGES TO BUNGALOWS WHICH MADE THEM UNIQUE

Along with his large output and the architectural interest of his designs, Noble was an excellent site planner.  He opened the interiors of blocks with cul-de-sacs.  The districts developed by Noble had a pleasing sense of coherence because of consistency of scale, setback and design.

Wikipedia describes "The American Craftsman style has its origins from the British Art and Crafts movement which began as a philosophy and artistic style founded by William Morris earlier in the 1860s. The British movement was a reaction to the Industrial Revolution, with its disregard for the individual worker and degradation of the dignity of human labor. Seeking to ennoble the craftsman once again, the movement emphasized the hand-made over the mass-produced.  The Arts and Crafts movement was also a reaction against the eclectic 'over-decorated' aesthetic of the Victoria era."

David: Thanks so much. I love them too. Even though we have lots of Victorians, I think the bungalows are more representative of Alameda. Hope your Memorial Day is enjoyable.

Impressive! If those bungalows are nearly 100 years old that is truly craftsman. (Yes, you do email Kerrie at the finish of the challenge).

Gotta love the classic look and style of the craftsman of these.  We have a few neighborhoods known for the craftsman bungalows here.  Those neighborhoods are some of the most sought after in the city.

Teral:  Thanks for the info, I will email Kerrie.  We all deserve a pat on the back.  Yep, the homes were built around 1915, so they are almost 100 years old.  Very cool looking houses.

Dan:  Thanks and congratulations to you, too.  That challenge was grueling, but fun.  But I need a rest now.

Greg:  Buyers do want the craftsman here, too.  But they favor the homes that have all the original woodwork, fireplaces, hardwood floors and fixtures.  These are harder to come by.

The video was well done, you seem to be getting better with the video. Short, narration, good video transitions, all good stuff Evelyyn.

Tom:

Thank you for your comment about my video.  I am trying, but I know the video seemed very disjointed.  I'll do better the next time.  I am happy that someone on the VB group is willing to critique my video.
