Winnetka - Memorial Day Parade at 10:00

The parade kicks off at 10:00 at the corner of Glendale and Elm Streets and heads east toward the Village Green where a ceremony will follow.  In case of rain, the ceremony will be held indoors at Skokie School, 520 Glendale Ave.  The guest speaker this year is Arlene T.Walsh, Winnetka Community Service Officer and Army Reserve Staff Sergeant .

Sergeant Walsh is currently one of the Senior Intelligence Analysts for a military intelligence detachment DET 3 3100 Strategic Intelligence Group.  Since 2000 she has been a Winnetka Police Department Community Service Officer and Child Passenger Safety Seat Technician.  She also handles the dogs in town and sometimes helps at school crossings.  Sergeant Walsh was prepared to go to Afghanistan in August, but the mission was recently canceled - she is training at Ft. Devens, MA in May and will be on 24-hour leave to participate in the Winnetka Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony.


Wilmette - Memorial Day Parade on Monday, at 10:30 am

The Village of Wilmette and Huerter Post #46 of the American Legion will host a Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 31. The parade begins at 10:30 am at the corner of Lake and Ridge Roads and heads east to Park Avenue, then south to Wilmette Ave and ends up at Village Hall, 1200 Wilmette Ave.  A short ceremony will take place near the Wilmette War Memorial.

Glencoe

The Village of Glencoe will be hosting several different events this Memorial Day.  

  • 9:00 am - The  Glencoe Newcomers & Neighbors will host its annual Memorial Day “run or walk a mile to rescue retired working animals through Save-A-Vet.Org”  at Kalk Park, Park Avenue at Green Bay Road, Glencoe.
  • 10:30 am - the parade will begin Greenwood, heading north to Hazel, Hazel east to Vernon, north of Park, east to Old Green Bay, ending at Memorial Park.  
  • 11:00 am - Master of Ceremony Roland Calhoun will introduce the Reverend Morris Jackson of the St. Paul AME Church who will deliver an invocation.
