Speechless Sunday: You Go First! No You!

By

These birds probably have a lot more sense than many of the humans who check out these rapids on the Potomac near Great Falls.  There are even signs warning that if you fall in, you're pretty much doomed, as the rescue guys know it's way dangerous to jump in after you.  Still, every once in a while, there will be a story on the eleven o'clock news of a drowning around here.

I took this photo from a pretty good distance, and the river is totally wild and beautiful around here.

Patricia, I'm always amazed at how many people will jump in the Potomac when it looks like that.  Living in the northern VA area most of my life, I've always had a tremendous about of respect for that river.  Too much to jump first.  Enjoy the roar of Rolling Thunder this weekend!!

Richie, this is nature at its most awesome!

And Mike, I couldn't believe the kids who were on the river in little kayaks!  Yikes!  At least they were wearing helmets - like that's going to help a lot.  And Rolling Thunder is all over town!  We're loving it!

A hairdresser I had back in the days of high school lost her father when he drowned in Great Falls.  It's not a place you want to mess around.  I think he had been kayaking.

Hi Pat, Isn't it interesting how water movement can be so rough that it takes all in it's path. When I was in BC, I was shown a rapids that to this day, has never been successfully navigated by man. I was told that it had the highest rating for a rapids. ( 6 ).

The water looks muddy, this has really been an interesting year for water, rains, the swollen Mississippi and tornado events.  You can never underestimate Mother Nature.  Stunning Photo, thanks for sharing!!  Have a great holiday.
