Old Oak Tree, Diablo Road Danville CA

The Old Oak Tree on Diablo Road in Danville CA is reputed to more than 350 years old and is the town's logo.

Note that there is a barricade around the tree to protect it from damage. The city of Danville CA has worked hard to preserve the historical trees and buildings and has some pretty stringent building and architectural codes for the businesses downtown, which undoubtedly make it a pleasant place to shop and dine.

Danville CA is situated in the San Ramon Valley between Mount Diablo and the Las Trampas Hills. As a matter of fact, it's the Las Trampas Hills you see in the background of this photo.

Vickie this is the sort of stuff I like to see.   I too have written about the preservation of old trees.

Great shot.

Vickie, I feel somewhat sorry for that old tree.  All its siblings and offspring are gone, and it is caged.

Very nice shot though.

Have a great week!

Suzanne, this is one way of looking at it. But this tree is a landmark, it's well loved and well cared for. The cage takes the brunt when someone wants to hang a message like "Happy 40th to Suzy".

Nice shot Vickie...I have been looking at that Oak Tree since I was seven. It was only 314 years old then. :)

LOL, Doug, why would you ever tell???? If you were female, you'd certainly just say you'd been looking at it since you were seven!

Vickie,

A magnificent tree. Funny comment, but I can understand it. itis a math exercise, Doug might not care about telling the world  that he is 43 (LOL)

Congratulations on reaching (and passing) 800,000 AR points milestone. What an achievement.

Thanks, Jon. I am committed to Active Rain, but my points took quite a hit yesterday when I pulled down posts about past listings and open houses (as I did on my own blog and on Trulia as well).
