The Dog Ate My Blog - And I Lost 3000 Points

OK well my dog didn't really eat my blog, but my brand new Playbook did.  I was doing so well with the 31 days of May Blogging Challenge and hadn't missed a day yet.  It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

My husband has been working in Toronto for the last few days so I had the opportunity to spend the night at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel with him last night.  I didn't arrive until after 9:00 p.m.  and realized I hadn't written my daily post yet, so I sat down to write a little ditty.

What?  The hotel wanted $16.95 for internet service for 24 hours.  I was only going to be there for barely 12 hours and most of that time I would be sleeping.  I had just paid $25.00 to park my car for heaven sakes and I just wasn't prepared to pay that much for internet access.

Aha, I had my secret weapon with me.  My shiny new (well except for the fingerprint smudges) Blackberry Playbook.  I figured this would be a good opportunity to write my first post on my new business tool/toy and since it was tethered by bluetooth to my Blackberry, it would be a no brainer.

Well I'm afraid I'm used to a 17 inch laptop screen so at 7 inches my Playbook's size was a little on the shorter side.  But I ventured on.  Logged on to AR.  Wrote my post, and was feeling  pretty proud of myself until I pressed something.  I'm not sure what I pressed but I lost my post. Unfortunately I hadn't finished filling out which groups I wanted to send it to so I hadn't totally finished the post enough to submit.

No worries I thought.  I will just log back on to AR and find it under saved drafts.  AR is better now at saving drafts, because I always see "Draft auto-saved" at the top of my posts when I'm writing.

Oops, no such luck.  My post had gone astray.  I was a dead duck.  There would be no post from me on May 27th.  I was sitting in a beautiful hotel room overlooking Lake Ontario watching the ferries go back and forth to Toronto Island and I was heartsick that I couldn't even complete the simple? task of blogging every day for the whole month of May.

What is wrong with me?  In any event, I do plan to finish up the month with the final 4 posts.  I know I won't get the extra points because I messed up but I have had fun reconnecting with many blogging friends here and I've met some new members also.

I feel like my mind has become more creative, I've been out taking more photos and I've spent more time here reading some really great stuff.  This challenge has shown me that it really isn't all that difficult to post on a daily basis but you have to allow for obstacles that may interfere with your journey to complete your task.

My decision not to put another $16.95 in the hotel's coffers cost me some points and knocked me out of the competition.  But no matter, we are all winners here at Active Rain.

Hello Jenny~  I feel your pain.  I got knocked out on day 16.  I was just too pooped to write a post.  This is my 4th challenge.  I survived the other 3 just fine.  Like you say, there are still so much gained (even without the extra points!)

Jenny - That's terrible ..... sometimes when I loose a post in draft I hit the back button and it reappears ..... we were down in Florida just after Christmas and everywhere we stayed coming and going had free Internet access ..... I canalmost guarantee the rates for the night were less than in Toronto ..... except for the place we stayed in once we arrived at our destination in Florida

Hi Jenny - I don't know that auto-draft save actually does anything or how it works.  I have seen it for years.  Best options are to physically save a draft post or to write it in an NotePad type app (I don't know what it is called on the Playbook) then copy and paste.

Jenny - other than this how do you like your new playbook ..... my son in law computer wizard says it is better than any of the others for our real estate use. I had previously had an opportunity to check out a couple of others that were being performance tested by a telecomunications consulting firm and found them both usuitable for TREB use.

Jenny, hopefully Keri will take pity on you. AR has been having a lot of problems lately. It may not have been anything you did.

Hi Jenny, too bad about losing that post. I wouldn't have paid that outrageous fee either. I was at a hotel in San Diego and they had internet access for free.

You paid $25 to park your car? That’s even more expensive than parking here in San Diego!
