How SAFE do you feel on the job? What actions do you take to keep safe?

On the job safety is important. As much as we want to trust everyone, we still have to be cautious and aware of our surroundings. Moby did a recent Real Estate Safety Survey and has made the results available. A quick review is posted in the blog and there is a twenty page report for free if you would like the full results.

As a big advocate of real estate safety, every year we hold a Safety Survey to research the current safety issues real estate professionals face on a daily basis. After two months of gathering statistics, we are excited to share with you the results of this year’s safety survey!

Following the tragic safety incidences numerous agents have faced this year, we wanted to survey the market to see if there has been a change in the way real estate professionals perceive the safety of their job.

After analyzing the results of the survey, we find it extremely important that all of us take extra safety precautions and advocate for a safer work life for all of us. As it is with any movement, we need to first build awareness of the current situation and push these safety issues to the highest possible level, whether it our real estate association or the press, so that we can show potential criminals that we are not easy targets!

So most real estate professionals feel safe on their jobs and most of their loved ones don't worry about them. I feel safe most of the time. Although it can be scary going into vacant houses. Especially the bank owned houses I list when I'm the first one in there. My teenage daughter doesn't know there are dangers associated with my job, and I prefer to keep it that way. She has enough concerns at the ripe old age of 14.

Tom, I've got a visual of you wearing your tool belt with a sixteen ounce hammer and standing in the gunslingers "high noon" stance.

Debby, vacant homes could have squatters or could be a drug den. It doesn't matter what neighborhood the home is in. It's best to err on the side of caution. That's a good idea not to worry your daughter. Please be safe.

Adrian, it's easy to get comfortable in your daily routine. It helps if others know your routine as well.

Kristine, anything to give you an advantage to get away quickly IF necessary. Always be ALERT. The world needs more lerts. (I couldn't resist that one)

VB, I'm an investor and often with someone when I view properties. I'm sure there are many other members that go to properties alone. I just thought this article deserved some attention.

Craig, lot of good information. I always insist that my agents pair up for open houses. I have a relatively small office, and sometimes it chafes on me when there is only one female agent in the office, they want to keep the door locked. But I understand - we have had a few occurrences in the area of groups of young people rushing in and distracting who's in charge and stealing what they could get their hands on. And this isn't a bad neighborhood.

John, sad to say, that it can happen anywhere. The world is full of good people for the most part. It's that small percentage that we have to be vigilant about. One bad apple won't spoil the whole bunch.
