Today I had the pleasure of visiting with Emily Dickinson...sort of. At the Enthios Art Venue here in Eureka Springs ,Arkansas my friend Marv Jonason produced the The Belle of Amherst, A One Woman Play originally adapted by Williiam Luce. Emily Dickinson was deftly portrayed by Lauren Owen-Scutari.

You may know that the setting is Amherst, MA in 1883. The play transports you immediately and although you never see the rest of the Dickinsons in this one woman play, you leave knowing them very well.

The Enthios is such a cool place. The multi purpose arts facility can accomomdate almost any type of event. The theater was set up today for about 30 folks and there was not a bad seat in the house.

Charles--Local productions are never a disappointment. Guess you had some really good seats if you are friends with the producer!

I love this show... I saw the PBS production. I've been a big fan of Emily Dickinson forever. I really "got" her through my composition teacher Lockrem Johnson. One my favorite pieces he composed and one that brought him a lot of notoriety was his one act opera, a Letter to Emily... I bet you did feel like you visited with Emily. The show based upon writings from her letters and diaries is deeply personal and touching. How wonderful Eureka Springs does this show. America has such a precious arsenal of talent that has been largely ignored.

Rene, Eureka Springs is an oasis. I hate to see the month long May Festival of the Arts end. The play was so well done and the setting so intimate. Enthios is working on a three play season schedule and I'm cheering them on.

Pat, Marv did a great job with this play. All the seats were good but I may have gotten the best.

John, it was a fun afternoon.

Very nice Charles, it's fun to go and check out local artistic endeavours such as the theatre. People are surprisingly talented, and it's too bad we have become such a jaded society that the majority of people aren't entertained unless it's a big budget prioduction. thankfully there's still a few folks who get out and about in their communities and make things happen.
