But Mom, I'm Not Sure I'm Ready

By
Real Estate Agent with eXp Realty of California, Inc. CA DRE #01490977

We discovered these 2 baby owls on a couple of trees at my Mom's house outside Philadelphia when we arrived home this evening. I only noticed because the cat was out in the yard (but thankfully had not seen them) and the mother owl (a screech owl I think) was flying around in the trees and calling them.

We lured the cat in (food always works well) and things settled down. The owlets didn't look like they were quite ready for leaving, but Mom kept encouraging. Sure enough, an hour later, they were gone. Hopefully they were able to fly back to the nest or off into the trees.

Seems like we parents are all the same, human and otherwise. Making the kids do things they DON'T want to do.

Enjoy the little hooters!

That was a great post Jeff! Yes, we try to make them grow up and take responsibility....they usually want no part of that........I know I sure didn't want to deal with it as a kid! Thanks for sharing those photos! I had never seen a baby owl before!

Jeff, Amazing photos. Animals are instinctual creatures. Their parents don’t make excuses for their young and most don’t give up on doing their jobs.

Jeff, one of the major jobs of a parent is to not only protect our children, but to encourage them along in life.

I am surprised that you were able to see the owls, because they really blend into the tree.

Thanks for stopping by to enjoy these little guys. I have been kinda tied up with some family issues so not here very much nor time/energy to write. Cute little guys - Mom is being very attentive as they have moved around.

Very apropos post for me - my daughter just moved out this weekend and into a city condo with a friend.  She kept asking me if she was really ready and I used the old baby bird flapping its wings for the first time analogy.  Beautiful photos!
