Apparently I needed to contact elected officials to get anywhere...
Finally at the absolute end of my rope with trying to help a friend get through a sale, short sale, deed in lieu that has been completely mis-handled by Bank of America, I new I needed to get outside help.
A little background....
The property has been on the market since June of 2008. It started as a regular sale. 6 months later, it became a short sale. I ranted about the short sale process with Bank of America here. In May of 2010, the home owner asked me (as power of attorney) to request a Deed in Lieu. We have been struggling with the Deed in Lieu process and finally have been assigned a rep who has been responsive. After being told that the property may not qualify for a Deed in Lieu due to the "state of the property", I checked out the house and wrote about it in "Are Gleaming Hardwoods Supposed To Be Bumpy?"
I was so frustrated I sent links to both blogs to every one of the elected officials in my friend's district, including the Govenor of Maryland. I sent the email at 9 PM in the evening. By 10 AM the next morning I had received a "the homeowner needs to contact us directly" email from Senator James Ed DeGrange, Sr. which I forwarded to the homeowner. At about 10:30 I got a call from Ted J. SOPHOCLEUS,Democrat, House of Delegates District 32 in Anne Arundel County Maryland. It wasn't from his office, I spoke to Ted directly. He had already spoken to a rep at The Maryland Banking Commission. The rep was expecting a call from me. He told me if I didn't get a resolution quickly to call him back. Very impressive.
The homeowner had spoken to Sandy Popp, a legislative aid for Senator DeGrange's office. I then got a call from Sandy letting me know they had spoken and she would be forwarding the info to the contact at Maryland Banking. I let Sandy know that I had already done that per Ted and that I appreciated her help. She asked that I keep them informed and to let them know if I don't get a resolution.
I called the contact at Maryland Banking, discussed the issues we were dealing with and forwarded the blog links. A few hours later I got a call back to let me know that the rep had been in touch with BofA and we should hear something shortly.
At about 4 PM that day I got a call from the President's office of Bank of America. They had the links to the blogs, and were reviewing the file and documentation.
I have been told that I will get a call back early next week. I have a real name and contact number for Bank of America. I have "in's" with both a Senator and a Maryland Delegate. I am finally confident that some resolution is forthcoming!!
I will keep you updated!
A BIG Thank You to Delegate Ted Sophocleus for getting on top of this so quickly! A BIG Thank You to Sandy at Senator Degrange's office who was ready to help just as quickly. Never heard back from the Governor's Office.
If you are struggling with something close to or as messy as what we have been dealing with on this home, I HIGHLY recommend you contact your elected officials sooner than later. It may just save you some frustration. They want to help!
