Blanton B scene

Blanton Museum, MLK at Congress

Join me for B scene, a bi-monthly art party, as the Blanton celebrates their summer exhibition About Face: Portraiture as Subject. There's a live performance by up and coming Austin band Not in the Face at 9PM. Music on the plaza by el john Selector, tours, and art activities with portrait artists, free snacks, and a cash bar are some of the features. There will also be a special appearance by the Kathy Dunn Hamrick Dance Company. Stroll through the galleries as the entire museum is open during B scene. The Museum Shop (10PM) and The Blanton Café (9PM) will be open late featuring a special menu of wines and tapas. And I'll be there as a volunteer from 8 - 10.

Texas Swing Fundraiser for Project Transitions

Saengerrunde Hall @ Scholz Garten 1607 San Jacinto Blvd.

Famed Austin band, and Broken Spoke regulars, The Derailers, will headline the main stage, and provide dance music for Texas boot-scooting all night long. Guests can enjoy rockabilly Western swing band, Little Mikey and the Soda Jerks, “Must-See Austin Band” (as labeled by MTV’s “The Hive”), Crooks, Whiskey Shivers, and Rough Riders. Texas Swing Music Festival & Side Show will also feature: Ruby Lamb of the Jigglewatts Burlesque Revue with special guests Sassy Delure and the Duke City Gypsy,Four on the Floor, Hoecake ‘n’ MisaPants present SheHaw, Fire Dancing by Sage of Sangre del Soland Ciara of Spunshine. BBQ and cobbler will be provided by Scholz Bier Garten, and a 200-item silent auction will showcase wares from local businesses and artisans. (Free dance lessons by Rowdy Dufrene at 6:30 PM). This annual early summer fundraiser provides essential funding for Project Transitions’ hospice and housing programs for people living with HIV/AIDS in Central Texas. About Face: Portraiture as Subject

A unique exhibition organized by The Blanton, features 40 portraits in diverse mediums from antiquity to today. Drawn mostly from The Blanton’s collection, the exhibition includes works by artists such as Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt van Rijn, Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, John Singer Sargent, Diego Rivera, Sir Jacob Epstein, Antonio Berni, Alice Neel, Chuck Close, Robert Henri, Andy Warhol, Yasumasa Morimura, Oscar Muñoz, and Kehinde Wiley. Austin Symphony Concerts in the Park

In its ninth summer season, these FREE ensemble concerts are a gift from the Hartman Family Foundation, presented to the Austin community in thanks for its continued, generous support. Each Sunday a different ensemble of the Austin Symphony will be featured at the new Hartman Park, located on the grounds of the Long Center for the Performing Arts, performing music from jazz and light classical to pops selections and film scores. You are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and blanket and make it a group outing.
