Wake Up America - again

Iceberg

The news channels have been buzzing with polls that say the American people (that is the "WE THE PEOPLE" that you read about) want a solution to the debt crisis but demand that we do not cut their benefits or programs.

I honor Congressman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin for his work on the budget plan which his colleagues in the House of Representatives passed - but which I do not expect the Republicans to continue to support when the sledding gets tougher.  And by the way - the Ryan plan does not take away or change anybody's benefits that are on Social Security or Medicare now or come on in the next decade - but the news media doesn't tell you that.

It is a scary idea that the people who know the economic and financial score may not have the political will to do what is necessary to save our nation.  And the Democrat party seems to think that they do not have to bring forth any ideas or solutions because the people will vote against Republican change by voting in support of the Democrats who offer no plan or solution.

TitanicThe best analogy I have heard (not original to me) is this:  We are all on the TITANIC and we have already hit the iceberg.  The Republicans are trying to get the passengers to the lifeboats - but the people are responding NO!  I am not going to give up my nice cabin on the ship.   And the Democrats do nothing because they will have control of the ship.

Folks - the entitlement society is over.  The MediSCARE tactics will not help.  The Democrat silence will not work. Soak the rich strategies are not going to work. We are borrowing $ 0.42 out of every dollar we spend.  And it has to stop.  NOW. The interest on the debt will soon exceed defense spending.  If our bond rating drops we will not be able to pay the interest on the debt. We need to provide a safety net for elements of our society in need - but transfer payments from the government may not be the answer.

I have a plaque on my office wall that reads "The price of freedom keeps going up - But the quality keeps deteriorating." The price is being paid by our young heroes in the military services. The deterioration is being caused by our citizens who demand an entitlement society and the corrupt government officials of both parties who feed them with no thought of the consequences.

And now when one party is trying to tell you the truth and seems willing to move to safer policies - the entitlement addicted people threaten to reward them by voting for  the other side who promises to give them nothing but more debt.

I do not want to politicize my Memorial Day messages - but I do not want to think that the sacrifices of those who have given their lives for this Country are in vain.  I do not want to feel that the Congress and the Administration are a greater threat to our Country than the foreign terrorists.

Tick-tock, tick-tock,...  When we have taken extraordinary measures (2008) to stave off fiscal disaster - we have been too late for measures taken to be effective.  We cannot be too late again.

WAKE UP - AMERICA !

Great post.  You say it much better then I could.

Too many Americans have their heads in the sand.  We need to stop waisting our time on nonsense television programs and learn more about our country, what makes it great and how to keep it great.

I have never understood how the government spends more than it has. It is bad for the country, and those that do not make a contribution should not be compensated for doing nothing other than having babies.

I have come to the conclusion that it will take an all out crisis before anything gets done to change our spending habits.  The tea partiers have some weight in Washington but not enough to get it changed.

Ted - unfortunately, you are preaching to the choir. The others will turn a deaf ear to the verses and a blind eye to the hymnal.

True enough, Mike <sigh>

But I will continue to raise my voice here and in other forums.  It is difficult for me to accept that I am such a poor salesman that I can not effectively share a vision that I see so clearly and that I am not able to convince.  I see facts, reason and history that I believe to be persuasive - but these folks, many intelligent and articulate, do not persuade.  We do not seem to be able to reconcile the way we see the world - and the role of our government.

So I continue to speak out and voice my opinions (and opposition) - because I do not know any other way.

You're right. The entitlement mentality in this country is just not sustainable.  And the left is so good at fostering and growing that "entitlement" mentality, and the conservatives have relied on people's common sense.  We have to get loud, and get active.

We're really no different from Greece.  As long as the FSA (Free Stuff Army) remains in charge we are doomed.  Over 45% of Americans now receive some sort of subsidy, or government handout, and that does not even touch the "entitlements" we give big business in the form of tax breaks.  The Banksters, and Wall Street are very adept at keeping the masses arguing over topics designed to get a 50/50 split within the electorate while they pay off both sides of the aisle for the right to pillage the taxpayer.

As long as there is a candidate offering free ice cream, they are virtually guaranteed to win the office.

Ted,

I am afraid that it  is actually the more debt - thhe less freedom. How can it not be? Putting yourself in financial dependency would erode the freedom itself.

That's is what you call the quality of freedom

Love your Titanic analogy

I am ashamed to say the Republicans don't have a back bone.  This back sliding of theirs has been getting worse every year.  They seem to have lost the will to fight and get their hands dirty; pretty words are not going to same this country. For crying out loud, you have the party leader crying every time he opens his mouth. I just want to shake them!!

Ted, I have talked to a lot of people lately and start to recommend to buy land with a house whenever possible. We need to prepare ourselves for what is coming, I really doubt there will be a way out of it and once the US credit rating starts sinking the fan is hit, we are SO close.

Will keep posting here and read your posts.

Great post, Ted.  I am concerned that very few citizens are paying attention. Fewer still are studying the situation enough to fight the right fight.  Only a tiny fraction of the people who are paying attention are willing to do anything about it.

Keep it up, Ted. I am new to Active Rain and am blown away by the indifference and passiveness of the Realtors. I wrote my first political blog regarding the Feds turning  foreclosured properties into rentals. Hardly any comments! Just a collective sign of "oh well". "Maybe we can get work finding the tenants to rent?" No, the Feds will be the National property managers. NAR is clueless! The Bank and Government REO's in Arizona are not being released. Fights over the few remaining properties and bidding wars on writing leases and they still remain silent.

So I fear for my dear country if they do not wake up by November 2012. I was the Silent Majority before but I have been changed dramatically since 2008. The activism, the political blogging, and all my new conservative friends will not go away. We will take our country back in 2012.

Ann and Ralph (I could get in trouble guessing which of you wrote the above comment) welcome to Active Rain.  You are certainly welcome to comment on any of my posts.

Active Rain has always been ambivalent toward political blog posts.  There are many of our colleagues who feel that there should be no public comments about religion or politics because they don't want to offend anybody - particularly on their blogsite where they are trying to attract clients.

Many of us, of course, disagree.  We feel that politics should be a part of every discussion because the impact on all our our lives and businesses is profound.  Although I do not frequently participate in the religious discussions, I recognize that for many, their faith is an important part of their lives - including a force in their business and how they relate to their clients.  So I recognize their right to express themselves in terms that they believe in (no pun intended).

So I try to post my articles in the Active Rain groups that are specifically designated for political subjects.  But it is sometimes difficult to know that I will not reach the larger Active Rain audience.  I am bringing up a new site for other commercial interests that will also begin to carry some of my political material.  I will probably post an address when the site is available.  I will hope to see you there...
