Ahwatukee History . . . Indians hunted and farmed the land that we now know as Ahwatukee in the 1800's and before. There were many gold and silver mines in this area. It was in 1971 that some of the land was purchased and developed by Presley Development Company. This area includes the areas of Elliot and Warner Roads and west of the Elliot/Warner Loop.
Through the years I have heard many great stories of Indian pottery found in the Ahwatukee and South Mountain area. By examining them the archeologists could tell which tribes the local Indians traded their goods with.
