Dallas Richardson TX Chinatown

There is not a huge Chinatown here in the Dallas Fort-Worth metroplex area. Unlike Manhattan's, San Francisco's or even Washington DC's huge Chinatown, the Chinatown in the Dallas area is rather small. Yet it serves our Asian community here in the area since 1869. The first Chinese moved into the Dallas area because of railroad construction, the Asian population in the Dallas area have been a steady growth.

So, if you want a taste of authentic Asian/ Chinese eateries and other local Asian businesses, the Dallas Richardson Chinatown is where you want to visit.

The Dallas Richardson TX Chinatown is a small shopping/ retail center with lots of restaurants, banks, hair salon, Chinese grocery store and even a Dallas Chinese Community center. Some of the prominent restaurants include:

  • Maxim Restaurant  serving Dim Sum. Maxim can cater and host large community events as well as Asian wedding parties
  • Canton Restaurant serving Cantonese style food
  • Jeng Chi - Chinese Restaurant serving noodles and dumplings
  • Genroku - Japanese Restaurant
  • Korean BBQ & Restaurant
  • May's Ice Cream - Don't let its name deceive you. There's no ice cream there, but authentic Taiwanese dishes
  • Que Huong - Vietnamese Restaurant
  • Best Thai - recently opened
  • Taiwan Cafe - dishes are cooked, you just pick out 3 dishes you want

Tian Tian 88 Chinese Grocery store serves a large selection of Asian/ Chinese grocery items and produce. The seafood is fresh and cheap!

There are also 2 local Asian Chinese banks that serve this community.

Jade Hair Salon is where I get my hair cut. Stella and Susan are the owners and they have been cutting hair in this location for many years. They are from Guangzhou China and they are very good at cutting hair.

Over the years, the Dallas Chinatown have made improvements to the area. Several years ago, they increased their parking lots increasing more parking spaces. Just recently, they added the Terracotta army statues.

I was not aware of this fact in your area.  I lived in the DFW area years ago and it changes each time I visit.

Loreena...

Atlanta has a large Asian population and there is an area north of the city with AWESOME authentic restaurants. Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese ... anything you want! It's fantastic.

I had no idea you have a chinatown. Pretty cool! I've only been to China Town in Manhattan and I love going there. We walk around and then try to pick from the 100's of restaurants. Not an easy decision.

"I listen for a living." It's all about you.

Having lived in San Francisco, Philadelphia and Boston which each city had a thriving Chinatown area I was thrilled to find the same in Dallas when I was there last year.  You mention a couple of my favorites, thanks for reminding us of all the great places.

Wow.  That is great.  There is an area in Houston that I used to go to.  One of my good friends was from Taiwan and she introduced me to it.  It is where I had my first Chinese food and I compare all Chinese to it.  There is nothing in San Antonio to compare.   Their fried rice had EVERYTHING in it from straw mushrooms to water chestnuts to carrots to eggs and all the goodies.  It came with every meal.  Miss it.

DC's Chinatown is almost non existent. Philly has a more rich, and real Chinatown.
