A Photo Gallery of Ione, California

iron ivanSorta by mistake, my husband and I ended up in Ione, CA, yesterday. Unlike many of the tourists who probably frequent Ione and support its 3 restaurants, we weren't there to visit loved ones in residence at Mule Creek Prison. The photo to the left is of Iron Ivan, a steam locomotive that was in operation from 1937 to 1956, a 12-mile stretch between Ione and Martell.

Ione is a small town, smaller than 5 square miles, in the Central Valley in Amador County. It's about an hour from Sacramento. During the Gold Rush, it was a supply center where the railroad ran through and horse-drawn stagecoaches stopped along the main road to the Mother Lode.

The first time I heard of the town of Ione was when a former client moved there. She and her husband had hired me to sell their short sale in Sacramento. I sold it, and their lender approved the short sale, providing the sellers contributed in the lender's loss. The sellers had the money but they refused. It was a small percentage of their difference. Nevertheless, I reluctantly canceled the purchase contract for them and canceled the listing.

I was very sad that they had chosen foreclosure; however, I respected their decision. This particular lender wasn't willing to bend. The stipulation for a contribution was in its guidelines. There was nothing else I could do for these sellers, which was painful for me.

After a few months, I guess they had a change of heart and decided to pay the amount the lender demanded after all. Instead of calling me, though, for some unknown reason, they hired another agent, who then proceeded to swipe all of my photos from MLS.

Not everybody appreciates the job of a Sacramento short sale agent.

Cute little town ... it looks like a remnant of the gold rush era. I could think of worse places to accidentally end up.

Hi Cynthia: Well, we stopped for lunch. Sat behind this heavily tattooed guy and his family at Don Luis Mexican restaurant. We were on our way to Rancho Seco but headed out to Jackson by mistake.

Interesting short sale/foreclosure story with the client with them not returning to you and taking your MLS pictures. Wow. This town of Ione looks so charming and looks like a place I would love to visit. I love small towns like this. If there's a heavily tattooed guy there it is ok with me. That scenario reminds me of a sports bar I last hung out in at Daytona. Super friendly. I also feel safe with the bikers. Salt of the earth types you know : ) Except they do bum a lot of money off me on the street corners ha ha.

That's too bad, Elizabeth.  Hope you picked up some new memories of that darling little town so you can remember it in a much better light!

Hi Gary and DeeDee -- hard to say what happened with those sellers. Could have been an agent doing cold-calling of expireds who lied and promised them no contribution, and when push came to shove they caved. They also don't realize how much work you do, especially to end up with nothing. Or maybe they were embarassed? And yeah, tattoo guys are OK.

Elizabeth - What a cute town, I love the fire station picture and hopefully nobody steals these pics. Within the last 48 hours I stumbled upon two agents who swiped my pics, one from an AR post and used them on her MLS listing and advertising.

Cute little town, great photos! What a terrible story for you though.  Yes, perhaps they were embarassed or something.  How odd.  And just sleazy of the other agent to swipe your photos.
