Kentlands raider identified

Many bird feeders are raided in Kentlands on a regular basis. Sometimes, chipmunks are seen as they climb the posts to the feeders. The larger raiders are our neighborhood squirrels.  Observers notice that the squirrels in the community appear to be well fed.

I captured this photograph on my Monday morning walk through Kentlands. Life is good in Maryland!

They all seem to have that I've-just-been-caught look, don't they?? I especially like it when they flick their tails, similar to cats when they're not happy. Ours out at Fishhawk Lake like to give my dog, Jenna grief when they've had to race up a tree.  They sit way up there and chatter away, I just KNOW they're swearing at her!!

Thanks for your comments. As Clint says, you need to have your camera in hand for that special moment. Squirrels do not pose very well.

That little guy looks like he is hitting the feeders several times a week! squirrels are my favorite rodent!

Hi Roy - This guy looks like the neighborhood makes his job easy!  I have all kinds of squirrel proofing around the yard, but they can still feast on the acorns, flower buds, etc.  : )

Wow - you got up close! My kids had a blast watching one of these robbers today taking bread from a neighbors home. They are cute, but I wouldn't want to come between them and their food!

Oh, those squirrels.  Those clever, clever raiders of the bird feeders.  I have about given up trying to find a spot to hang a bird feeder that they can't figure out how to get into!  Every place I've tried seems to have a leaping off spot for the squirrle to grab onto the feeder.  I could place it in the middle of a grassy spot w/o trees, etc around but than they'd just shimmy up the pole and it would make a mess in the grass.

Hi Roy,

That is a real close up.. I have never been able to photograph a squirrel...  they always manage to get away so quickly.  He sure looks to cute to be raiding bird feeders... but looks can be deceiving I guess.  There must be a shortage of nuts for the squirrels and chipmunks to turn to seeds for Dinner.
