Town of Rye Logo

WELCOME to Rye New Hampshire!!   Rye is a pretty little town right on the coastline of New Hampshire.  Our coast is only about 16 miles long, from the Massachusetts border to the Maine border.  And Rye is one of our four NH towns right on the ocean!  Of the 16 mile long coastline we have, Rye covers 8 of those miles.

Rye was first settled in 1623, and was actually the first settlement in the state.  Rye was named for the small borough of Rye on the English Channel.  The current population is about 6,000 residents, with the average age of Rye residents being in their late 40's.

Rye Coast

Although New England, including New Hampshire, has mostly rocky coastlines, Rye has some beautiful sandy beaches - Wallis Sands and Jenness Beach are 2 of them.

Rye Center Church

Ordiorne State Park in Rye is on 137 acres of protected protected coastline.  Because it's protected, the vegetation and scenery there has remained virtually unchanged for the last 300 years or so.  A Scottish fisherman landed at Ordiorne Point back in 1623, and created the first permanent settlement in NH.  Fort Dearborn was built on this point by the military to protect Portsmouth Harbor from attacks during World War II.

Programs are offered at Ordiorne State Park by the Audubon Society and by the University of New Hampshire that have special interest to botanists and those studying marine life.  They have a great Science Center at Ordiorne Park with all kinds of exhibits having to do with life in the area-people, animals, vegetation, ocean life, etc.  This is a beautiful park, and during the spring, summer, and fall, you'll find all kinds of gathering going on - weddings, family reunions, etc.

Rye New Hampshire real estate is on the more expensive side in the coastals areas of New Hampshire.  There are presently 63 homes for sale in Rye, with the prices ranging from $295,000 to $7,850,000.  There have been 28 homes sold in Rye over the last 5 months, and those ranged from $306,900 to $2,475,000.  Average days on the market is running about 150 days, and sellers on average have been getting 94% of their last asking price.  The average selling price in Rye is $785,000.

This is a sampling of some of the homes currently for sale in Rye, NH.

If you're ever in NH, and especially in the Seacoast NH areas, a ride through Rye is a very pleasant way to spend some time.  It's a beautiful little coastal town, full of scenic roads and gorgeous homes.  And it's the next town over from Portsmouth NH!!

Ann, I think I'll take the one with the ocean view in the background (the one with the flag in the picture). How much is that one?

It sounds quite lovely, there and small enough perhaps to know most of the town folk.  While reading about how the area has been untouched, I couldn't help but think of how great to know that the coastline has not been compromised by any of the oil people. Sounds like a very pleasant area.

Hi Gena - thanks for stopping by!  That lovely LITTLE gem on the ocean is $7,850,000.  It is a beautiful compound, with direct ocean frontage and sandy beach.  Mere pocket change!!  ;-)
