Marketing using QR codes

QR codes are the latest and greatest marketing tool for real estate agents. Have you started to notice them on for sale signs, business cards, housing magazines, etc? I have started receiving the emails promoting the QR code services and they can be confusing at first.

It is amazing to me that you can take a photo with your smart phone of a little white square with random black markings and with a proper app gleam detailed information. Are we finally saying good-bye to pricey color property fliers that ruin in the rain?

So how will you be using them in your marketing plan? Will you have a different QR code for each listing or just one that promotes your website or facebook page? My understanding is that the codes can be generated for free, but that you need to hire a service to convert the information for mobile users.

I am looking forward to seeing more QR codes in use and hearing how they are working for fellow real estate professionals. As of right now, I have more investigating to do before I fully understand the process. It is hard to believe that in the 80's we were using phone book size MLS books for data and now you can get all of that data and more with a crazy black and white image!

Happy Selling!

I also think it's a great idea... however, I haven't heard of many people actually getting business from the QR codes. I think one thing that appeals to consumers is that they can get all the information without their info being "captured" the way it is when they text or email... However, on the flip side, it makes it more difficult for us to get a potential lead's contact info. Just food for thought.

Great post - I personally don't think QR codes will stick around much longer -- rather text based location services are what I'm gambling on.

The way it works is... your client stands in front of a property and text "INFO" to 5555 (or whatever you have it set as) and then he/she receives all the information and photos about the property and you (the agent) receive the persons phone number for a followup call. The buyer also has the option of having the agent call him/her immediately.

I've seen Latter & Blum use this technology here around New Orleans.

Here is an interesting statistic to the QR code.  <!--[endif]-->Mobile Barcode scanning was up 700% in 2010.
