Open House in Maricopa: Is it Worth Putting Up All Those Signs?

Okay, so everyone on our team (Team Realty Force) and others at Top Five Real Estate have been doing open houses for a long time now.  We have come here day in and day out sitting at these empty open houses (in Maricopa, Casa Grande, Queen Creek, Gilbert, etc)...in sum investing a whole lot of our time and energy.  In fact, you will often find me grumbling about the signs we have to put in the ground that we use to guide or lure interested buyers who happen to be driving nearby.  While putting up signs in my skirt and heels, ok, maybe I stretched the truth a bit there, my shorts and sandals ,you might overhear me talking to myself saying, "I got a college education and this is what I'm doing?  Ugh!! Why won't this stupid sign go into the ground? ....is that a rock? Why am I doing this in the desert, on hard desert ground?!"  I've even thought about hiring a sign guy (around 6'2", athletic, mid 30's, $1.00/sign...anyone interested?J), but no one has picked up on my telepathic messages.

So, why do this?  Well, because we find it to be a great way to meet clients.  And from the clients' point of view, it's a time for them to scout out an agent that meets their wishes and needs.  Buying a house can be stressful and finding a real estate agent that you trust and who you believe has your interests at heart helps make the buying experience much more enjoyable.

Here's why I do it:

1. It's motivating

You will find me in an open house every day that I'm not showing.   I bring my lap top computer with my Verizon air card so that I have internet access.  If visitors do not come, that's fine by me.  I can blog, follow-up with clients, research homes, and study up on the real estate industry.  It's like my office.  It takes me away from home where I can find a number of reasons to distract myself and it focuses me on my job.

2. I can make new clients

The potential to find willing buyers is great.  I could be on the computer at home, but why not work at an open house when there is a possibility that someone could walk in who is a serious buyer.

3. Proximity to my house

Okay, I will admit it.  I live a couple of blocks away from this particular open house and I would be lying if this wasn't hugely appealing.  I can go home for lunch if I want.  I can close up shop if need be.  I know this area, which is very appealing to clients.  People call me the Maricopa Queen (although I secretly prefer ‘princess'...not a secret anymore now).

4. Every day exposure for our listings

Most of our clients that list a home to sell with our company, Top Five Real Estate, will receive the benefit of us sitting at their house.  It's like free advertising for them.

5. It keeps me on my toes

To be out in the field, listening to prospective buyers concerns and desires it helps me figure out what I need to know.  It seems like I learn something new every day.  I absolutely love the occasional stump questions as well because it causes me to search on the internet for the answer and then I have something new to blog about.  For example, someone asked me what the difference is between salt water and chlorinated pools and I chose to make a joke (cause that's what I do when I don't know the answer) and stated the obvious, that one has salt water and the other has chlorine.  But that got me thinking, why do people choose one over the other and what is the cost difference?  That will be in a blog-to-come.
