Excellent idea as always Craig. One I wish I had put in place a whole lot sooner. Better late then never!

Great idea and just in time. I was taking the long route and not the fastest route.
I don't have to worry too much about that problem yet...but, still good to know. It's good to start out with the right tools and knowledge. Thanks, as always Craig.
Expertly explained Craig. Tags are the key to success when searching for your past blogs, or pretty much anything on the web.
You've surpassed yourself on this one. I feel as though you've given we "peons" (those of us who are NOT technologically savvy) a look behind the secret curtain... a little magic wand on this one.
Where is the button that allows me to subscribe to you TWICE!?

This is terrific information - the search function can be very frustrating. Thanks for sharing (and I say that with a smile, knowing that is some little indirect way I have been helpful!!). LOL
Jeff
This is a very nice post.
Thank you for posting.
Actually, I have often tried to find something of mine via my own tags, and could not. When I finally did I changed the tags to include the word that first came to my mind!
Incredible post Craig. Thank you. I will remember this when I have tons postings like others.
Perfect afternoon to you.
Julia
Bliz - cool! glad you came by today :: Anna - thanks for the feature! :: Barb - hope you find what you are looking for! (sounds like a U2 lyric) :: Debb - I highly recommend you figure out tags early, they are quite useful, then you won't need the "alternate search" method :: Craig - I love tags done well! glad to see you :) :: Alan - glad you like! you must have some volume of posts to search through, perhaps this will help! :: Jeff - can you tell me which way to the beach! I think I need a vacation LOL thanks for coming by to see! :: Jay - it is helpful to edit previous posts to "better tags" when you re-discover your favorite articles and know that you want to locate them again and again :: Julia - I look forward to you having the 'problem' of tons of posts! (but learn good tagging as the better way...) :)
Another great post, but I should have known better. If you need a day off, don't come to your post. More work, but it is always good, and it really helps ~ always!! Thanks.
Craig, Wow, now maybe I'll be able to locate both my past posts and others that I've read. I had no idea that you could refine your google search by time and site.
Thank for a great post. It will be useful way beyond AR.Great to be able to drill down ones searches precisely.
Craigs, that's a creative way of using Google to search ActiveRain posts. Thanks for sharing.
Craig-you must have ESP because just last week I was trying to find a post I'd written and had to it the long way. Where were you when I started??? Thank you... all of your tutorials are excellent but this one is just perfect.
Sandi - sorry to make more 'work' for you, come to class and you will get homework LOL :: Leah - glad you learned something new today :) :: Maya - good point, works outside of AR just as well! :: Praful - glad you liked :: Kathy - sorry you didn't know this just a little sooner, you'll be ready "next time" though! :)
Thanks, good ideas for finding something, of course you have to have a memory of what it was you wrote about if you did not tag it right. sometimes i cannot remember from one day to the next let alone 2 years ago. but great post thanks.
Craig, that's awesome info! I can't remember what I wrote yesterday, so forget about a few months ago! I don't know what I would do in a few years if I didn't have this info! Thanx!
Craig, I've tried it numerous ways. I'm not as tech savvy as you. I couldn't get it to find specific posts for me. There's got to be an easier way. Currently, I go to "statistics" and scroll through old post pages till I find what I'm looking for. Thanks for taking the time to put this together. I hope it works for someone else. I"ll be watching.
This has been an incredible string of posts that you've written. I had no idea about this, so thank you very much. Obviously this is one to bookmark.
that cracked me up...way back then I did not know how to use tags...so very true! I must not say much worth retrieving because I've never had to go and look for anything...lol
Nick/Trudy - usually you'll have in mind the specific topic that you wanted to share, short-sale, first time homebuyer, etc, etc... if you can pinpoint one or two words of the title you would have used in the past there will be a good chance you'll find it again later :: Eric - thanks appreciated! :: Peg - you might not remember WHEN but WHAT, hopefully you can use this when that time comes! :: Ken - yes a little while back I was bestowed that honor :) :: Craig - any chance you are trying to find a members only post... as you can see why this technique will not work for those. Otherwise, please email me details so I can help troubleshoot :: Mimi - thank you so much, I appreciate hearing that! :) :: Cindy - maybe it's ok as blogging newbies we don't understand tags since those posts aren't worth finding LOL
Craig thanks for another great example on how to do more and better things with Active Rain. You're the best.
Craig ~ Fantastic post, bookmarked, suggested and off to see how this works ~ then to read about tags, your link...
That is very helpful. I didn't know about narrowing a search in google with the date....cool!
I have searched a few times and found them, but not as orderly has you have explained.
Craig- This is the best idea of any idea I have read today! Excellent! I have written almost 2000 posts and the hardest thing is to find a post I wrote! I do have our VA back up all my posts, they actually take each post that I write and put it in google docs and sort them by subject matter. But your way is much faster to just find that one post I want to find!!! Katerina
Wow, thanks Craig. I just learned a lot. These tips could help with a whole bunch of Google searches.
Craig:
Since I am a newer AR member, searching for my past blogs is not difficult. Since I plan on blogging the rest of my life, I can see I will need the information you have provided. I am falling asleep, so I need to go over this blog tomorrow am.
With 4 years of posts and nearly 4,000 of them, you don't know how much this post will help me find those lost posts. THANK YOU!
This is awesome information, as always! I love learning new things from you.
Very helpful. .
I tested and I found a post from longtime ago that needs updating..
Thank you Craig!
Thank you for the post. I will bookmark it and try it as well as reblog it for others.
Craig...
Thanks for this ... I have never used these Google features but you can bet that I'm going to be giving them a try today!
Craig - Those are some great search tips which I need to start using. ActiveRain should allow all of the post names in the Statistics page to appear at one time rather than showing us about 20 at a time. They had previously shown all of the posts on the points page until a few months ago.
Thanks Craig - you are always the king of helpful to get us all going in the right direction! I agree with Marc about the statistics page . AR's changes made it harder for us...
Thanks for this post! This is a great tip on finding specific information. I'm going to save this one.
That sounds effective, and I'm going to bookmark this for future reference when my usual search method doesn't work.
Craig, having gone the circuitous route more than once, I'm happy to find this simple tutorial for retrieving old material. Thanks!
Craig, thanks for reminding us that the Google search engine is pretty powerful when searching the net.
Craig-
We're lucky to have you and your terrific blog posts.
Thanks for sharing them.
Wow! I had no idea that the “intitle:” and “site:” operators existed. Very cool!
Ignorant no more....is my new tag line after reading your post...thank you Craig...
Craig, I understand site and intitle as you use them...now. Is there a list of words someplace that work in google searches? Very helpful...as always.
Great way to show some of the advanced search features of Google. I didn't know about the intitle operator.
Thanks, Craig. This is awesome information, especially for those of us who are not technology oriented and would probably never figure that out!
Gosh I have struggled with this forever. I use them but I've come across others on another platform that said 'Wah???'. I tried to 'interview' others on this topic & frankly some people here are just nuts. Custom Excel spreadsheets! Yikes! That's what Russel Ray does & probably Jeff too.
Craig, thanks for sharing that. I had absolutely no idea you could search for posts that way! Great information!
Debra - thanks much :) :: Karen - great! :: Shar - yes, that can help sometimes knock the list down to manageable size :: Chuck - glad that helps :: Katerina - that's awesome, you are certainly another one with such a huge content to search that this will be helpful! :: Greg - yes, light bulbs going on in the head, can do this and that :) ... :: Evelyn - blog on! (and find them later :) :: Todd - your search batting average just went up! ;) :: Tara - cool, thanks! :: Fernando - thanks so much for your SUCCESS story, glad to hear it :: Gita - thanks for the bookmark and the reblog :: Richard - I'm sure your vast quantity of posts now has a new refindablity option! :: Marc - good thought, I'll note that on my wishlist post :: Dagny - thanks, like that title :) :: Cheryl - don't forget to tag too! thanks for coming by :: Kathleen - come back to this post when you say "now where did I leave that post?..." :: Margaret - will see you soon :) :: Geri - experience tells a tale, thx :: Michael - let's leverage what google knows! :: Anthony - appreciate you saying so :: Bill - always glad when I can teach something new :: Richie - like the tag line! :: Glenn - here's a cheat sheet and also the official google search info page
John - yes I've known about site for a long time, but intitle is a recent find for me too and thought it fit the need for ARs pretty well in our searches! :: Joyce - techie stuff but not complicated right?! :: Lyn - have fun with better search and find of your 1,123 posts! :: Shannon - you are very welcome, thanks for visiting! :: Barb - very glad to hear, thx :)
Thanks Craig, I've bookmarked this today for future reference.
I enjoyed it.
Patricia/Seacoast NH & ME
Thanks for the information! You have some wonderful info that is shared here, I just hope I remember it! If not, I will be searching YOUR blog. :-)
Hi Craig,
how cool, and simple, and why did we not think of this before, well I guess because we have blinders on, thanks for this illuminating concept to use google and find our own stuff, wow I can't beleive, I have wasted I do not know how much time on tracking stuff, thanks Craig, you are the best...
Craig - Thanks so much for this post. Though I will have to come back later to read it, this is just what I have been looking for. For being on A/R since 2006 as you can imagine we have quite a bundle of posts and always dreaded the thought of having to go find it. Bookmarked! :-)
Craig - nice FEATURED post! Why is that I have to bookmark every post of yours? I always learn so much and know that I will need to come back for more!
That was a great post Craig... so simple and yet answered all my "But what about this?" as I went through..
Great job!! :)

Craig - Thank you. I didn't know this could be done, and my tags are useless for the first several hundred posts.
Hi Craig, another amazing post by the man. AR needs to implement an easy to understand monthly Archive feature so readers can navigate through and find what they are looking for. Tags are just OK.
Patricia - good to have for reference :: Alex - glad to hear it! :: Barbara-Jo - perhaps you come searching before you search! :) :: Pfanns - so glad to hear this will save you time! I rely on my tags to find stuff, but not everybody has index their stuff as well and this will help!
Glenn - glad you liked :: Robert - the more you have to search through, the bigger the sigh of relief! :) :: Barbara - glad to keep your bookmarks list busy! :: Erica - lots of posts makes the task harder than the newbies! :: Tammy - glad I filled in all the blanks :) :: Christine - another longtime blogger that I can help! glad to hear :: Victoria - the AR system has room to improve, let's hope our discussion in development ideas brings forth new features in this regard, until then we have some leverage to find thanks to google! ;)
Craig~ Thanks! I knew most of this, but the intitle is new to me. Now, if I can just find this blog next time I need it--just kidding, bookmarked until I have used the trick enough times to remember it.
❦ Craig, I guess I'm way behind in reading my favorite blogs! We really were on the same page this past week-end though weren't we! I love this idea too... Thanks for sharing!
Pamela
Another really useful tip. I edited my tags, so can find my own posts but will use this to dig us ones others have published.
Craig, I had no idea you could Google like that. It's a tip I'll use in the future. Thanks
I am reading Mac for Dummies and found a section on Spotlight that made me think of this post when I read it.
Craig, We learn something new every day! Thanks for the tips!
