Homes for Sale in Irving, Tx and the Dallas Mavericks. The Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat square off for Game 2 tonight in the NBA Finals! Dirk Nowitzki will play Game 2 with a torn tendon in his left middle finger. The Dallas Mavericks superstar will wear a splint tonight to protect the finger.
"I'm not really worried about it," Dirk Nowitzki said before the Dallas Mavericks' shootaround this morning. "We'll try something right before the warm-ups. The main thing is when you hold the ball in that hand, so I don't really want to put too much tape over it. I still like to feel it, and we'll find something to protect it from the back." Dirk Nowitzki scored 27 points in 40 minutes in Game 1. After he injured the finger, Dirk Nowitzki made four free throws and took two shot attempts.
There needs to be better opportunities for Dirk Nowitzki. The Dallas Mavericks destroyed the Lakers and Thunder with amazing pick-and-rolls, but Miami Heat defenders are too quick and well-prepared. The Miami Heat won't let J.J. Barea run crazy and won't allow Dirk Nowitzki all the space he can eat to launch the one-legged dagger. Rebounds would help matters, too.
The Dallas Mavericks and Rick Carlisle needs to make roster changes for Game 2 tonight. Caron Butler and Roddy Beaubois are not an option. Instead, the more likely move, if the Dallas Mavericks make changes with the rotation from Game 1, is the use of Brian Cardinal and Corey Brewer. These two have been left for dead at the end of the bench for most of the NBA Playoffs. That's not a knock on Rick Carlisle by any stretch. His nine-man rotation has gotten the Dallas Mavericks this far, so there's no need to mess with a good thing.
But some of the issues that cropped up after Game 1 -- namely rebounding and defending LeBron James/Dwyane Wade -- could be addressed by Cardinal's lunch-pail approach and Brewer's length. Cardinal could be an option instead of Peja Stojakovic, especially if Stojakovic continues to struggle with his shot. Cardinal can muck it up inside, hit the boards, deliver some message fouls if needed and step out to 3-point line on offense. Brewer, at 6-foot-9, theoretically gives the Mavs another wing defender with size in addition to Shawn Marion and DeShawn Stevenson.
Going back to the Lakers series, Brewer logged a game-changing stint in Game 1 as the Dallas Mavericks rallied to steal a win. He's only played 11 minutes since. The conventional thinking is that Carlisle sticks with his usual rotation tonight, but should the Dallas Mavericks fall into a 2-0 hole, perhaps changes are made when the series picks up Sunday night in Dallas.
