Has Insanity Struck TxDOT?

One of the few undesirable things we experienced while living our dream in Colorado, ws the need to follow a “Pilot Car” down a per-determined construction route any time the road was under construction.

The absurdity of that always amazed us. The idea that the people in charge of CDOT felt that the folks in the state were not bright enough to figure out where to drive on roads that were clearly under construction seemed ludicrous.

I always wondered where they thought we would drive without their guidance and direction. Had there been a lot of road pioneering going on before the inception of the “Pilot” program?

Several years ago we returned to Texas. Recently we were on a favorite country road outside Magnolia Texas. Low and behold, the traffic was all snarled up due to the fact that people had to wait for their turn to follow a “pilot car.”

Perhaps this is a way for the highway department to employ more Texas people?! Or, maybe we missed the shovel and this is really another “shovel ready” project. Have we really been dumbed down so far that we cannot figure where on the road to drive without guidance?
