The time is near for Ghosts, Ghouls, and Goblins. When the Northern Illinois weather starts taking the dive into the 50's that means the best time of the year is approaching......HALLOWEEN!
Halloween is my personal favorite holiday of the year. We get to dress up and go to parties, decorate our homes with all sorts of crazy things, and best of all, take the family trick-or-treating! I just love the look on my kids faces when they're standing there in the threshold of some strangers house and much to his surprise, a hand full of candy gets dropped into their bags.
October also means Pumpkin Patch! After moving from the luxurious suburb of DuPage County and into Boone County, there were certain things I thought would not be the same but thanks to this gem I stumbled onto....a good pumpkin patch is still just a stones throw away.
The Pumpkin Patch on Route 176 in Caledonia is just west of Route 76 and east of Caledonia Road. It reminds me of Sunny Acres or Gooberts only this place has a "home-town flavor" to it. There is plenty of fun to be had for the whole family. In fact, I just took my family there last weekend.
Once you pull in, you are immediately greeted with fall flavor right at the entrance as fall sights and sounds surround you. After taking my kids through the inflatable area, we stop and pick up some fresh roasted corn and some hot popcorn. Once the kids were through with their snacks, we tackled their corm maze. This was the first time I was in a corm maze so I wasn't too sure what to expect. I'm happy to say that we make our way through the maze in about 45 minutes (all in one piece too). Looking back, I wish it took a little longer because I really enjoyed watching my 3 & 4 year old leading the way for us. I had to bite my tongue a few times when I knew the direction we were about to go was where we just came from but I just kept thinking "Ahhh...they'll figure it out eventually".
With the interchange at I-90/39 at 173 now open, the traffic that passes by the Pumpkin Patch is sure to double within the next year. The Poplar Grove village line is just a mile to the east of the patch and I know from attending their village board meetings that they have big plans for the area on 173 east of the pumpkin patch. With additional residential and commercial growth within Boone County, I think the owners of The Pumpkin Patch can expect greater things in the future.
Be sure to take a family trip out to The Pumpkin Patch!! I promise you will not regret it.
