This Would Be A Home Inspector's Nightmare

This would indeed be a home inspector's nightmare, having to do a home inspection on a building that was originally built in 1530! Imagine all of the things you might discover crawling around in this place!

This unique structure was at one time part of the town wall in Geislingen an der Steige, Germany. It is the town that the father of my two children grew up in and I have many wonderful memories of times there. We actually lived there for a few months, with Herbert's parents, after he graduated from engineering school.

After living in a town with such a wonderful history and looking back from a Realtor's perspective, I have to wonder how a home inspector would handle an old building like that!

Ha! Ha!  This is why Europe is not an easy place to be an American home inspector!  Can you imagine trying to appraise a 15th C. chateau or castle???

I believe any home inspector would really love the opportunity.  I doubt that he or she would walk the roof though. :)

That's funny!  But what a cool looking home.  I bet there were some interesting nooks and crannies in there!  Oh the stories those walls could tell!

Jennifer - it is a job I would not want!

Steve - yes, walking THAT roof would be a real trick!

Geoffrey - probably!

Georgina - indeed, I have often thought that, if only walls could talk!

Barbara-Jo, challenging to say the least. I would imagine that if the structure has stood the test of time it must be some solid construction. That's saying a lot considering the methods used to build, almost 500 years ago. Would this house meet current codes or be grandfathered in? Probably not.  Food for thought

Craig - I am sure they would grandfather it in, but who knows for sure......I could always ask my 'ex'. :-)
