Serious New Real Estate Feature/Benefit! - Trulia Crime Maps

It doesn't matter if you are a real estate professional looking for a way to entice buyers and sellers to use your real estate services, or you are a "civilian" (i.e., non-professional) interested for your own purposes, Trulia has come out with a great new tool - Trulia Crime Maps.

As an agent or broker, we are trained not to say too much about crime statistics (frankly, for risk management purposes) but to point our clients and potential clients to the best relevant resources we can find and provide. Well, if Trulia Crime Maps isn't just that for crime statistics purposes, I'll eat my hat!

As of today (time stamp - 6/4/11), this is still in beta but it's awesome so check out this link and TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK!  ;-)

I saw this and immediately discounted it. The obvious reason is the limited scope of cities offered. The next would be the reliability of the data. Contacting a local department would likely offer more current and accurate information.

Kent, Thank you for sharing the crime map. I also agree with Mike that contacting the local police department is another useful source for potential buyers moving into an area.

Carla, Pamela, Mike, Carol, and Dick, thanks for stopping by the blog and checking out this post on the Trulia Crime Map (in Beta) resource.

Trulia doesn't claim to cover every city yet (how could they?) but they are obviously starting with the more populated metro areas (which makes sense to me).  Also, the crime data is only as good as that data that the sources are providing.  However, any data is better than no data in most cases.  Most folks would rather have something - and then assess the viability - rather than being left in an information vacuum.  I think Trulia's effort is to fill the vacuum.

Kent - We have used WatchDog for sexual predators.  This looks like another good tool to add to the arsenal.  Especially since our crime rate is so LOW it will make our area look even better! :-)
