The Upper Yacht Harbor & Arana Gulch Santa Cruz: Just Before Dusk in October

Upper Yacht Harbor, Santa Cruz Just Before Dusk, October 2007 (c)

Another walk with my friend on a warm October early evening . . . we started at the Upper Yacht Harbor off of 7th Avenue in Santa Cruz. We quickly climbed into another world - the natural habitat known as Arana Gulch in the city of Santa Cruz. It is amazing that on the ocean side you have the busy Yacht Harbor, and behind it lies the natural Earth . . . no development allowed.

Wow, I'm really jealous Deborah.  It's so beautiful there.  It's always great living by the water.  I've never been to your part of the US.  I lived in NM for a while.  Beautiful as well, but very dry.  Keep the photos coming

Hi Kevin: Thanks for stopping by and commenting. It is really beautiful here, but most places have their own beauty. Isn't New Mexico "The Land of Enchantment?" I lived there for a couple of years, but did always yearn for the water. Please come visit. Santa Cruz is also a really fun place with tons of stuff to do.

Thank you, Bob & Carolyn! It's interesting when you'e out in nature how beautiful everything looks. I was thinking the photos did not do the actual nature, justice and of course they never could, but it is so nice that a person can get some kind of feeling for the beauty. The Internet is the best invention ever! Thanks Al Gore! :)

Trees are sooo magical! You took some really great shots!!!

Those boats look awfully crowded - kind of like I imagine it is out in California -

Hi Deb,

You are 100% right, NM is the Land of Enchantment and I loved it there, but there was no water.  In the spring you could have snow sports in the morning up in the mountains, and come down in the afternnon and go for a swim!  We spent a lot of time hiking in the canyons, walking White Sands National Monument and exploring the rocks.  It was great fun.  What part of NM did you live in?  I lived in Alamogordo.

I do live in NY, out in the country.  I'm about 3.5 hours from NYC.  It's funny, you can be driving along the highway and you're in the state of New York, but you'll see highway signs that read "New York 120 miles."  It's surprising they don't put the word city in there somewhere.  I am just guessing that's the part of the state you've always wanted to visit.  Let me know if you need any info on NY.

Bill & Barbara: Thanks for stopping by. I don't know how "normal" the crowding is, since this is the only Yacht Harbor I have ever really paid attention to . . .

Kevin: I lived in Clovis, New Mexico - don't want to trash it, but was so happy to get back to California! I would like to go back and explore more of New Mexico some day. As for New York, I want to see the city, of course, and the country. So much to do, so little time!
