Can you ever really be prepared for an Earthquake or any disaster?

It’s Monday June 6, 2011 12:12 AM, and I just felt an earthquake.  It was small one, must have lasted a split second, but nonetheless, it is nerve racking--at least for me.  Anyone esle?  I’ve lived in Californiaall my life and I still can’t get used to them.  Every time, there’s one I remember all the ones I’ve lived through—sort of an earthquake flashback....lol!  I have a flash light in my night stand drawer, but that’s about it for my Earthquake preparedness kit.  I know I should do more.

So, are you prepared for your natural disasters?  I’ve always thought that places where they have hurricanes, and tornadoes are better off than places like Californiawhere we have earthquakes.  We don’t have “earthquake warnings!”  They just happen.  Like the one I just felt.  It probably won' hit the news.  But this is making me think: I really should do more to prepare for the big one! Maybe I should start a group dealing with natural disasters and how to prepare for one.

I'm sure many think they're ready, but when it happens I think everyone is feeling the same way.  At least at that very moment.  Unprepared.

I found a blog with great tips...even though we might for get the best of tips....it doesn't hurt to know them....I remember in grade school how the would drill us on what to do in case of an earth quake...but now the standing in the door way....is not a good idea!

Aida, I didn't feel it. We really should have an emergency plan in place and be earthquake prepared. Am I ready for a big one? Ah, no, not yet...

You just confirmed my theory that the strange weather we have been having is indeed "Earthquake Weather".  I think most of us know what we should do to prepare but few of us have actually done anything.  Two to four weeks worth of food, water, some medical supplies and we're set.  Watch for the run on the stores and the panic when the big one hits.

I guess it is just something you get use to.  Most of my life I lived near the Gulf coast.  We always had plenty of warning when a hurricane was approaching.
