Sink, Swim Or Float In A Boat...It's All A Matter Of Survival

Well, it was finally time to open the pool over this past week, and we had some extremely windy days. You never know what will blow into the water! Seems this little guy found a way to stay afloat and and beat the heat by climbing aboard a fallen rhododendron flower.

Maybe he's thinking "It's about time they got around to opening the pool!" Cute photo, John. I hope you saved him after you took the picture.

Toni - Yes, I did save him. I have rescued all manner of critters and bugs from the pool. What's interesting, though, is you can generally tell exactly what month it is by what's floating in the water!

Cindy - Yes, he really did get it figured out. I was removing a winter plug from one of the returns when he caught my eye.

Andrea - I can appreciate your feelings about bugs. I'm okay with them outside, but not fond of them when they invade the house. Have a great day!

Hi Phil - That is a great caption for the photo! Thanks for dropping by.

Hi Sharon - Well, I don't know if he went exactly where he wanted to go, but I did put him in one of the planting beds on the other side of the house.

Great shot, John!   I love Phil's caption...very clever!  Hopefully your pool season won't see many more of these guys!

Hi Sharon - Thank you. Phil's caption is just great. Chances are good we will see many more of these little guys. When the summer night air is cool, they are attracted to the warmth of the pool water. Oh well, that's what skimmers are for :)

Hi Joan - I liked your caption as well! Really, how lucky can a cricket in a pool get? Not only does he find a boat, but it comes complete with a canopy to keep the sun off him. Thank you for stopping by!

Hi Dawn - Thank you! Actually, the photo is correct. To the right of the cricket and blossom is the vertical sidewall of the pool. I guess its easier for me to visualize since I was up close and getting personal with J. Cricket.

John,

That looks like something I'd expect to find in a National Geographics magazine. It's absolutely a wonderful capture!!! :)

I love it. Thank you for putting a smile on my face. I needed it after my last phone call.

Patricia - I was lying on my side reaching into the pool to remove a winter plug when he caught my eye. Standing up, I probably would not have seen him under the curl of the blossom. So the photo was taken the way I first saw him...lying down. Sounds like you needed a reason to smile!
