Procrastination is the avoidance of doing a task which needs to be done -postponing until tomorrow what can be done today. It not only affects a person's work, but also commonly involved feelings of guilt, in adequacy, self disgust, stress and depression.
Twelve Steps to Help You STOP Procrastinating:
- Make a task list and prioritize it - work on "A" priorities first. Abandon or delegate "C" priorities.
- Focus on the end goal or resulting benefits.
- Ten Minute Plan - tell yourself you only have to work on the task for ten minutes. Ten minutes is better than nothing and your self esteem will soar.
- Be prepared. Are there steps that require your attention first? Figure out what they are and work on them first.
- Advertise for accountability. Allow peer pressure to help motivate you to move forward on the task at hand.
- Give yourself rewards when you accomplish something.
- Divide the task in bite size pieces. How do you eat an elephant?
- Do something! An old proverb says "We are the vessel and God is the rudder". However, he can't direct us if we are not moving.
- Find out what motivates you. Are you motivated by Love, Fear, Money, Power or Survival?
- Keep in mind "It's never as bad as you think"
- Remember the word "No" never killed anyone.l
- Make sure you have the right equipment, tools or knowledge to complete the task.
