Ladies, please hear me out on this one. Feel free to correct or criticize as obviously I am not terribly well versed in the subject of pregnancy. So, here goes:
Deciding to buy a home is sort of like pre-pregnancy. It's a lot of fun, very exciting and expends some very positive energy.
After you've put down that contract, you're now pregnant. This is when the uneasiness begins. Inspections. Lenders asking questions and wanting documentation that doesn't exist. Sellers balking on making repairs. It can make you a little queasy and nauseous. You wonder, what have we done? Is it going to be like this from now on?
Once you're through the first trimester, things calm down a bit and fall into a routine. It gets sort of fun again. You start picking out a little furniture, deciding where grandmother's grandfather clock is going to reside in the home, etc. It's all positive and exciting again.
The closing is like having contractions and birth. The bank all of a sudden needs some obscure piece of documentation immediately. The final inspection shows that something's wrong with X, Y or Z. The closing attorney finds a tiny little issue with the title that means, yep you're about to be overdue. Things aren't so fun any more. The furniture is somewhere on a truck waiting for you to call and have it delivered. The stress level is ratcheted up a bit. The family wants to come over and "help" out. Advice comes from friends who have never purchased a home before, but are self-described experts.
Then the closing happens, all the paperwork is signed, and you get keys, garage door openers and a congratulatory bottle of wine. All the excitement is back with moving in, having friends come see the new digs, etc. The bottom line, is that once you've made your home happy, all the stress from the first trimester and labor pains is forgotten into the past. Now you can enjoy your new baby!
